TaffyWduck, also known as Karine, has been around Tailfeathers since March 2002. After Baby, her first cockatiel, joined her life, Karine turned to the internet for advice on how to care for the feathery friend she had just acquired. Quick to learn and eager to help her fellow bird lovers, Karine was asked to become a moderator and she has been a part of Tailfeathers ever since. The reason for her long presence cannot only be her love (and addiction) to birds, the great people she has met at Tailfeathers over the years account a great deal for her attachement to the network.
At the tender age of 18, Karine discovered what would end up being her passion... birds. In 2001, Baby entered her life eventhough the young woman never had any desire to own a bird... sometimes, it just clicks! And click it did because since then Flamie and Indy, cockatiels, along with Kirby the budgie joined her life and are enjoying the love and care they deserve.
In 2003, motivated by her love and fascination for the animal world, Karine enrolled at the University of Montreal in biology. In June 2006 she grauated with honors and she will be pursuing her academic career in the field of animal behavior. Currently, Karine works both as a Educator-Naturalist in a zoological institution and at the University of Montreal animal behavior study laboratory, working mainly on avian behavior.
In her quest to educate, Karine has contributed some of the articles that are available on Tailfeathers and they can be found here.
Birds have had a profound impact on Karine's life an she hopes that by working in the animal behavior field she will eventually be able to help others understand how complex their bird's behavior can be and how to give them a better life, the life all animals deserve.
