I took this video last year but there has been no change since then and has been going on for a total of three years now:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIkjWaM-aTQ

Most days, my canary screams all the time like this. Don't get me wrong, he also sings.. but in between singing/eating/sleeping etc. he is screaming.

It appears to be his version of the trill call in a canary. He has no trill, just this noise along with the other usual canary sounds such as the angry sound, the alarm call, the chirp (which we never hear anymore...) and the song.
He is a Roller canary. Question 1, do all Roller Canaries sound like this..?

Now I don't have a problem with this noise but he is driving my husband mental and nothing has stopped this noise. I am hoping to rehome him if there's no way to stop it but who will want to adopt a bird that screams like this all day?

He started out living on his own, then we moved him in with our two zebra finches. We bought a hen canary last year too (and she's lovely by the way) but the story has never changed; he still screams all day and always has.

I've kept canaries before and have never heard this sound. I've asked on two other forums dedicated to canaries and at first they told me he is calling for a mate.. but he still screams despite having a hen canary companion.

Believe me I have tried everything, sometimes he stops when he gets what he wants but a lot of the time he just happily screams away, even when he's out of the cage and flying about.

So, has anyone got any experience with a canary that makes noise like this and what to do about it?
I suspect he was 2 years old when I bought him based on his ring (could be wrong) but that would make him 3-5 years old.

I'm wondering because most pellets are made with corn and soy and even so, most aren't cheap. I'd like to see some pellets made of other ingredients or at least with veggies in the pellets. They do it with kibble so why not with pellets? I don't particularly care about it being organic. Anyone know of a product like this?

Hello everyone! I am desperate for advice. I have a two year old male cockatiel who is obsessed with me. As soon as he hears my garage opening he screams, and continues to scream till I let him sit on me. I cannot leave the room without him following me and if I don't take him with me he screams till he's next to me again. If I'm cooking and I put him down he flys to my shoulder or will bite my toes until I pick him up. My entire family is annoyed with him and he's starting to get on my nerves as well. I can't do anything unless he's right next to me. I have never yelled at him when he starts with the screaming tantrums because I know it won't do any good, nor have I ever hit the cage. I try to let him scream it out but my family gets annoyed so I can only do it for so long. Right now he had a fit because I wouldn't come to the cage when I came home because he was screaming, (mind you his cage door is always open) and screamed for a good 15 min until my sister got mad and annoyed. He is currently under a blanket and had stopped. I cant cover him forever... However, when I'm at my boyfriends house and my tiel is there with my boyfriends two teils, he doesn't care if I leave the room. But if I leave him there for a few days he becomes depressed and sits in the corner. He doesn't care for the other tiels, he's sort of a loner. He has a lot of toys in his cage and things to do when he's bored. I'm at a loss of ideas and don't know what to do to get him to stop screaming when I'm home and not next to him. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

Hi all,

I was watching a programme the other night, and they were making their own cleaning solutions from Bi-carbonated soda, lemon juice and white vinegar. And it seemed really effective (they actually cleaned a whole manky student house with just these three things and some water)

Needless to say, I'm interested

So... anyone know if any of these three ingredients, or the combination of them all together, are safe around our little birds?

I don't plan on cleaning his cage with them... but other things in his room (they use bi-carb to remove smells and stains from the carpet!).

So, anyone know?

Hi, after a bit of advice re my 2 canaries as not able to get to a vet for a few days... Some of my worry may be just panic (I lost my budgie at less than 1 year old due to liver disease that was caused by a bacterial / viral infection of some kind) - the vet told me it's 'possible but unlikely to have been passed on, but to keep an eye on them, and take them in if I'm worried....

Snowy, who's nearly 1, is a white canary, he is mainly fairly active, but has had a bit of 'down time' where he has appeared fluffed up recently... But not for long, I tried to take a pic, but he noticed me and proceeded to bounce about so I couldn't even get any pic of him... I believe him to be male, but he doesn't sing much really... He has had a bit of problem from time to time with his poop, like yesterday he was really squatting on the perch to poop, then it got stuck on his feathers... So I put the bath in and he bathed and cleaned himself up, and just checked him now. There's poop on the floor, and his vent area is clean... I know tail bobbing is bad for birds, and he had slight movement of his tail when sitting / sleeping, but not all the time... (Bluey my budgie had quite pronounced tail bobbing caused by enlarged liver pushing against the sacs) Also have noticed that on the front of him, he seems to have a parting on his chest area of the feathers... Occasionally when he's sat, I can see a bit of pink there... Is that normal...? Thought it may be he's overweight or something..? Bailey my 2 year old canary seems to have a line there, but have never ever seen any skin area through it.... Also Snowy eats way way more than Bailey does.. They both have a diet of a canary seed mix, seed bars I put in, and plenty of fresh fruit and veg.

Also Bailey my yellow canary has a bit of down time, like now at 6pm he was on one leg fluffed a bit, but definitely no tail bobbing. Now it's 10 mins later I've put the tv on, and I can hear him singing away to it... So I guess a bit of down time like that is ok..?

I'm sorry for all the questions, just it's knocked me sideways a bit having a bird die sooo young that I'm worried so much about my little canaries and want to do all I can for them.

Thanks in advance

hi there, ive been wondering about my budgie, Peep. Ive been trying to find what type of mutations hes got in him and have been finding it difficult. He is a male with a purplish cere and pink feet. He is white with blue(sky blue, I think) and dark blue cheek spots. His wings are clipped and hes got black stripes up on his head down to his cere and go down his back into his wings and stop there. his feathers darken as they go down and his tail feathers are very dark. the only reason im not so sure of his mutation is that none of the pictures have stripes as far down as Peep's do and also don't have pink feet.
Peep also doesn't chirp at all. Ive heard a few clicks but that's it.
