Hi everyone--- I came back! I was on here almost a year ago to talk about my beautiful baby linnie I'd found and purchased from a breeder. It was a very sad day when I woke up after having him for only two months and found him passed of a stroke 8[

Anyways, I'd been toying with the idea of getting a new bird- and I went to a pet shop earlier today. I'm normally very wary of pet shops, but there was this one yellow sided conure who was very very friendly- she hopped into my hands and nibbled at my fingers and climbed up my jacket to sit on my shoulder. My heart broke, and I decided to bring her home. I'm sitting here now doing research, because though I've had a bird before, my dearly departed Watson was not a conure- I'm just curious what everyone's experience with this beautiful bird is, and if you have any wisdom to pass on to me, a new conure owner.

Thank you so much!

As many of you know, I have 17 budgies. When I moved I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to keep them & found a way to work everything out. I am now in the process of building a huge flight for my budgies & allowing them to be able to have free flight time. I am even planning on planting some trees & shrubs for them to use as perches. (ones that are of coarse birds friendly). Since I was little, I have always wanted a Green Cheek Conure. I told myself that I wouldn't get one until I have as much information on them as possible, so I have been reading up on them. Just recently, I found a Pineapple Green Cheek that is hand tame & only a couple months old. I would like to try to get this little guy. I have a great Avian Vet that I would be able to take my conure to (if I do decide to get him) for a check up. I would like to hear your thoughts & suggestions about this. Anything helps!
Thanks in advance!

Hello Everyone! I am looking for my first bird and am stuck with the idea of a sun conure. I am also willing to accept other suggestions but first here is some basic info about me:
- I am turning 13 in June
- Wanted a bird since 2nd grade
- Looking to be a vet when I am older

I am looking for a bird that is active like me, at lease somewhat colorful, and a major goofball. I am an only child and would like to have a bird to be more of a friend or companion than a pet. I would like to possibly show this bird in a bird show or two. And I want this bird to be some thing like an "early vet lesson" for my future vet schooling. Now for the bird I prefer it to be at least medium sized. I know Conures are loud but I know my parents and I could handle some loudness. So please help me find the perfect pet. Please respond with suggestions or comments or questions. Thanks!

I have a conure who laid her first egg this morning. A little background -- We've had her since Dec 2005 and her boyfriend since May 2006. We've never encouraged them to breed -- our avian vet gave us some tips on discouraging egg laying and we've never had any eggs -- until today.

Our setup: we have a 'night cage' upstairs and a 'day cage' downstairs. Of course she laid the egg in the night cage (unfortunately it dropped & broke) and then this morning, she didn't want to leave her cage. I finally coaxed them out and got them to lay the morning conure bomb in the toilet and then brought them downstairs for a bit, but she was so agitated that I took them back up. She seems to be comfortable up there. My biggest concern is that neither of them will poop in that cage. Or at least they never have. I put fresh food & water in there and a small cardboard box. I'm pretty sure she has another egg coming -- when I coaxed her out I checked her vent and she looks puffy. I don't know whether to move her back downstairs where I can more easily keep an eye on her or leave her in the quiet upstairs.

Any thoughts or tips on what might be best? Our avian vet had a heart attack earlier this year and is on medical leave. We haven't found another one yet (but that just got moved up to the top of the priority list).

Thanks for advice you all could give...
