Apparently, Midori and Yara are not done with this first round of eggs! :eek

There are so many choices on bird cages that I'm checking out everything. Dimensions, bar spacing, etc. I thought it would be easy choosing a cage, but there are so many that I really like.

This is not an easy choice. I want something Midori and Yara and their babies will have fun in and be comfortable in. Back to cage hunting.

I'm going to be a grandparrot. Well it seems that way. So far, hubby and I see two eggs, and I think she is due for another. I discovered the first egg on the third of this month and then another one a couple of days after the third.

Has anyone done egg candling? How many days after the lovebird lays an egg do you candle the egg? And how on earth do you get the egg to candle it? From what I see, Yara is not letting anyone near her nest. She bites very well. :\

My Lovebird has been picking at his tail now for about 2 weeks. I thought he was cleaning it then I looked and it was a bloody mess (about a week ago). I gave him a bath checked his blood feathers to make sure none were actively bleeding that may have needed to be pulled but none were.. So now this is 2 weeks in his tail still looks like this and it looks like feathers are growing in.. Is this normal for a bird to have a bit of blood when new pokey feathers are coming through? I do have pictures but im not sure how to post so I will try to put one in my profile pic right now.

Hi guys!

i have two lovebirds for a while i wasnt sure what sex they were but it seems they have produced an egg. now i dont know if its fertile since this is the first time they have ever laid eggs but im just wondering if it would be a problem to move the egg?
i have placed a nest like tub with some shredded news paper at the bottom of the cage but they have decided to lay the egg in the food bowl high up in the cage
im worried it might get cold as they are in an outside avery.

any information would be helpful

also if the egg would hatch would i then need to remove the female and baby from the cage to prevent any aggressive behaviour from the father?

Thank you

Hi,
I was given a pretty little lovebird about two months ago. The previous owner was feeding her the bulk cockatiel mix from the local pet store which she seems to like, so I continued with that. But she only eats the tiny round seeds (brown and white). This does not seem like a balanced diet so I bought a small parrot mix with lots of different things in it. Well, i tried it for a few weeks (mixed with her usual) and she didn't eat a single thing from it.

Meanwhile i have also been putting bits of fruit and veggies on a tray next to her seed dish. I have tried just about everything (that i know is safe for her). She won't touch it -- and if it's too close to her, she will throw it on the floor.

Then i tried hand feeding her some fruit. That's when it got interesting. If i got too close with it, she made a strange noise, puffed up, and looked at it as if Satan himself were standing there. First she attacks the food and throws it on the ground. If i try again, she bites my hand -- hard! -- and hangs on like a crab so i get the message. She never bites hard at any other time.

Why does she react like this to yummy food? And how can i get her to eat a more balanced diet? Her health seems fine so far but that would be like me only eating white bread and water all the time ... doesn't seem wise!

thanks!
kyle

Tini was doing well and was as stable as I could ask for considering everything. However, this morning was a BAD morning...her breathing was horrendous - clicking, wet breathing, continued mouth opening...she did not want to get out of my hand. They could not get me a sub until 1/2 day, so I brought her to the vet for a 1:30 appt. When I came home to get her, she was doing better, but still not quite right, so I took her anyway. They could hear her breathing and said the best option at this point is to scope her...then we can tell if it is anything or nothing and if there is anything that needs removal and/or biopsy. She is so swollen again, they can't do anymore by just looking without sedation. Unfortunately she has to have complete anesthesia. :( At this point though the only other option is to continue these go rounds where she has flare-ups that may or may not cost her life. After having spoken with the vet previous and speaking with him today, we decided that the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks. She is an otherwise healthy bird and should not encounter trouble with the anesthesia. *sigh*

I left her at the vet's tonight so that they can do the procedure tomorrow and hopefully I can have her back tomorrow night. I HATE leaving without her...hate it hate it hate it. :(

So if you have a moment, please send Tini some good juju tomorrow...my little floofer can use the love. Thanks friends!

Hi, I'm a soon to be lovebird owner. Last night I was looking at lovebirds and I found these two rescued lovebirds named Sandy and Rio. Well, I fell instantly in love with those two cuties. I immediately emailed the girl who's selling them. She said that Sandy has some aggression issues. Sandy bites but only when she's inside the cage, but when she's outside she lets herself be picked up. Rio on the other hand is very sweet and laid back. They're both under 2 years old. I really want to give them a home and make them happy for the rest of their lives. My dad has had birds in his life so we do have some bird expirence in the house, thank goodness.

The questions are:

How should I start off training Sandy?
How can I gain her trust?
What are some things I should and shouldn't do when I bring them home, so I don't stress them?
Is it possible to fully gain Sandy's trust?

And any tips for a first time lovebird owner would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

Hi Guys ,

This is my first time posting here. I'am hoping you guys have some idea about what my lovebird is going through?

Two weeks ago I noticed Sunshine was having balancing problem so I took her to the vet and they didn't know what it could be but they gave her anitbotics and fluid shot for dehydration. The next day she seemed to be better. Then last week I notcied she is having the balance issue and I noticed her left feet should could not hold much balance with, so went back to the vet and they did an X-ray and couldn;t see anything wrong other than maybe low calcium. They gave me neocam and mexlicam for pain

Then two days later she couldn't use the foot she kept it up but sometimes she would use it. but I noticed she did not have any grip on it anymore. Once again back to vet and they did a blood test and also did the 3 day stool test. The blood work came back and it shows her Kidney is not functioning correcty, she has a high phosphrus count. Normaly range is 3 to 7 and hers is 12.4. So the vet things maybe the kidney is bothering her and it is causing pain in the feet. She advsed me to give her amino omega or fish oil which has Omega.

I'am thinking of getting the roudyboush special formulated for the kidney.

Has anyone ever had any problem like this with their lovebird? I'am also still wating for the stool test to see if maybe Gianeria maybe another cause for the feet not having a grip.
