Hello! I am not really good with introductions, so hopefully this is alright. I am 19 years old and I just got my second cockatiel about a few weeks ago now. I had one quite a few years ago, but I was too young to care for it properly and needless to say, that was not the best of endings.

Despite my rough patch, I have definitely grown up now and I finally felt ready again to be able to take care of a bird, so I got my little buddy. His name is Oliver but we like to call him Oli or Prince Oli because he's quite the proud little guy and loves to dance to Aladdin's Prince Ali.

I am also hoping to get an African Grey when I am stable enough once I move out, as I have always wanted an African Grey. Birds are my absolute favorite, really. I love their personality and I love how intelligent they are.

I am looking forward to being on this website, as I'm naturally very paranoid about my little baby. Anytime I think something seems even the smallest bit wrong, I freak out and hit the internet to make sure he's okay.

I don't know what else to say, so hopefully that was sufficient enough!

Thank you!

Hi, my name is Marti and I live in Minnesota. My two adult daughters got me a new baby lovebird for mother's day. I instantly fell in love with her. I was told that she's around 4 months of age. She is eating well and loves to play with her toys. It's only day five with her and she don't seem to want me to handle her to much. I was told she was handfed. I didn't talk to the breeder myself, this is what my daughters told me. The breeder showed them how she could be handled. Is it still to soon for her to even want anything do with me? She will sit on my arm when I take her out of her cage, and will stay with me until I put her back in. She don't step onto my finger when I take her out of her cage.

Thanks in advance,
Marti

Hi I am Georgia, I currently own 4 budgies (2 males and 2 females) the 2 males have mites on the beak and legs and one on his rectum. This is being treated at the moment. I am wanting to breed them I have all nessesary items etc... I don't know how old my newest male is (but I do know how to tell how old they are) but when I got him he has a big chunk of that fleshy thing above his beak he sounds like he has a cold (I will not be taking to the vet please don't criticise me for this) and I am wanting some tips of what natural remedies could make him better also my newest female has dirreaha so I went to the pet shop and she gave me some vetafarm spark liquid concentrate to put in there water she also suggested antibiotics but I said I would just try the spark liquid concentrate for now she also sneezes but not as bad as the male. Please give me any advise at all like if you have been through this before.
My other budgies are at home now in there cages they are separate from each other as I am trying to treat individual needs of each.

I love animals and I think I am getting a baby budgies within the next three weeks

Savi, AKA Savannah, is the little 5 week old baby bird I posted about a couple weeks ago not eating and possibly not being fully weaned (okay, clearly not being fully weaned). After a few trying, worrying days, she finally began to eat a little, and then a little more, and now seems to be eating and gaining weight nicely. She never would accept hand-feeding from me. I sometimes think she actually started eating /just/ so I'd stop trying to shove that syringe in front of her face :p

Anyway, today,I got her new cage in the mail. She's out of that tiny cage I've had since I got her, and is now in a birdy mansion, something that stands almost as tall as me, and has plenty of room for her to fly about in it. Here's her new cage, and her checking it out for the first time. :)

Crazy bird didn't seem to care /too/ much about it though. She was muuuuch more interested in me letting her back out. I've been so busy today she hasn't had much out-and-about time. Certainly not what she's used to, at least, because she normally has the run of the house when I'm home.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnW8SQKE0lI&sns=em

I love this little bird. I hope she never grows out of her cute baby phase. :lol

Hello! I'm sort of a newbie -- I joined a couple of weeks ago to get some advice on our conures. We have two green-cheek conures (Trill & Trino), two cockatiels (Lunus & Bronli) and two dogs. After 7 years, Trill decided that this would be the 'year of the eggs' and has been busily nesting. She's laid 6 eggs so far - I really hope she is done now. The first egg that she laid broke, so she has 5 good eggs which she is hovering possessively around.

We got our green-cheek birdie mama in Dec 2005 (or maybe I should say she got us, because she has had us wrapped around her wing since day one). In May of 2006, we 'rescued' her boyfriend who was also supposed to be a green-cheek, too, but after reading more about them, I think he might be a maroon-belly conure -- or maybe a hybrid. Either way, since we didn't plan on breeding them, we didn't really care what he was - he was sweet and the two birdies hit it off pretty well after the quarantine was lifted. Our vet gave us some tips to 'lessen the probability' that there would be eggs - and those tips worked really well for almost 7 years, until this year.

The two cockatiels are both males, so no eggs for them lol. We also lost a cockatiel, Sergie, last November. He was our first bird.

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this community!
