    cover cage?

The lady I bought my bird (who still doesn't have a name, poor thing) from told me NOT to cover his cage. Why? I always covered any other bird's cage that I have owned. They were parakeets and a lovebird.

    Thanks!

    Re: cover cage?

The lady doesn't know what she's talking about.

Most birds should be covered at night to:
    1) ensure they get the 10-12 hours of sleep they need
    2) help prevent night frights.

A small minority of birds get stressed and panicked when their cage is covered, so if you find this to be the case, try just covering part of the cage instead.

    HE HE HE

I thought she was incorrect. I have always covered my birds at night. But, I had never had a tiel, either.
    THANKS A BUNCH!

Some people don't, and if your bird gets enough sleep and doesn't have frights uncovered, it is okay to leave them uncovered.

I have one cockatiel who has night frights if the cage isn't covered, so the cockatiel cage is always covered.
The budgies and finches are uncovered.

I always cover my cockatiels' cage, since the female cockatiel gets night frights very easily.
