Re: My baby budgie is losing feathers, please help.
Does he Have any bald patches??? Because then I wouldnt worry at all. He is probably moulting. Thats normal for baby budgies to start that. Also....a bird cant keep his long feathers forever....there is always more to grow. so he was probably shedding them to make way for new ones.. I know from experience.

Re: My baby budgie is losing feathers, please help.
Hi and thanks for the response. No he doesn't have bald spots, I guess it is just moulting then, he also has spiney little feather like things on top of his head, I really don't know how to describe it! Can you tell me how long a molt last and how often they go through it? Thanks : )

My baby budgie is losing feathers, please help.
Lately my little Chiclet seems to have fluffly little feathers stuck all over his cage, they are soft downy feathers. I wasn't so concerned at first, but in the last week while cleaning his cage I found 3 longer feathers. Should I be concerned? Thanks for any suggestions.

the spiney little feathers on the head are called pin feathers. If your bird lets you rub its head you can rub the pinfeathers to get them out of the clear sheaths.

Re: My baby budgie is losing feathers, please help.
you said he is a baby- how old is he?
If he's a chick, he could be fledging, or the parents plucking him (in which case they need to be seperated).
If he is moulting, he shaould be between 5-8 mo old, he will do this 2x a year for the rest of his life. They length varies quite a bit, but it's normal for them to lose feathers for awhile, stop for about a week, then finish.

Re: My baby budgie is losing feathers, please help.
I'm not quite sure how many months he is, he still has the bars across is forehead. I got him from a pet store, I'm going to try to rub is forehead to soften the pinfeathers like the previous poster suggested. I just worry about him because I've never owned a budgie before and want to be sure he is all right. Thanks for responding
