    I lost my Tricks tonight

Tricks, my blue boy budgie was fine last night and today. He was hyper and doing somersaults and was fine. Tonight I walked into the den and he was sick on the floor of the cage. I picked him up and he was struggling to breathe. I held him and about 13 minutes later and tried to offer some water and talk to him but he took his last breath. I am so very sad and his mate is wondering where he is chirping with no response from him anymore. It's been two hours and the house isn't the same.

I know it's hard for you, but do pay extra attention to his mate now that he's gone - she's grieving for him, too
Make sure she's eating, sometimes in grief they refuse to eat and drink, and die, too

I am so sorry that Tricks died.

Featherjinxer is right that he was so fortunate to have had you there to comfort him and hold him in his last moments of life - he had a true friend in you.

It will take both you and your other bird some time to get over his loss, I am sure. But at least you have each other to rely on during this difficult time.

Be strong and know that we are here for you.

    This is so sad
be strong, your little girl needs you.

Also, I suggest you get her checked out by an avian vet, in case what killed her mate was contagious, if so there is a good chance she might be sick as well but hiding it and if you take her now they might find out and save her!

Have a blood profile and fecal smear done also...

    *hugs*

Taffy's right, your remaining bird needs to be seen by an avian vet ASAP; it's very l ikely whatever killed him (if it wasn't cancer or a congenital defect) has already infected her and will end up killing her as well.

www.aav.org/vet-lookup to find an avian vet.

    Tricks..

I'm so sorry to hear about Tricks =*(

I can tell you loved Tricks very much and I'm sure that he knew it too. I know it was hard but at least you were there for him when he was sick at the end and were able to hold him... I'm really sorry

I'm so bad at knowing what to say during this time... Just know the whole board knows what it is like to love a pet and we know or can understand how sad it would make you. We are all there for you!
