Are ceiling fans really bad for my budgies?

I have ceiling fans in every room. Is it really bad for my birds? I live in the South and it's really hot here in the summer.

I would be leery of turning a ceiling fan on, especially if your budgie is in close proximity. The main reason, is draft. You do not want the fan directly blowing on your little one. The other, if you budgie is out, you do not want him to be flying into the blades either.

Ceiling fans are okay, except that they collect dust on the fan blades (could be some mold growing there too).

I wouldn't have ANY of the fans on in the house when your birds are out especially if they are not clipped. You can't always guarantee that your birds won't fly into another room.

My budgies use to use the ceiling fan as a perch during playtime.

They're fine as long as they're not on when your baby's out. Dickie used to like to sit on the blades, and has us push them around slowly

It Depends on your bird as well...Some birds completley freak out at the turning of the fan, so you'd have to see what kind of reaction you get from your bird.
My cockatiel goes absoultey bonkers when the fan is on, and I believe it's because it resembles a large bird above him.
If it is hot in your area, you could always use a standing fan...one with a cover so your birds can't fly into it, and these are generally "less scary".
