Re: how do you tell male from female?
They must have had their first moult (6-8months). Cick on "breeding babies and mutation) then click on the FAQ's, and there is a huge one on how to tell almost every mutation's sex. Some, ike pieds, cannot be sexed visially, they need a DNA test. What type do you have?

Re: how do you tell male from female?
yep!
here links:
find the mutation (colour varity), go here and look at the pictures/descriptions.
and alsohere
and also here
once you know it's colour, go here to find how to sex.
and also go here
and note if it's young, it'll look like a female, even if it's male! and pied and lutino cockatiels cannot be sexed visualy.

Re: male or female?
yep, we call that 'barring' as it forms sorta stripes. all young tiels and most females have that, it's often used in sexing but it's not 100% true... some males do keep it, but most get a plain tail, some females get a plain tail, but most keep it! but all young tiels have it.

OK
I was wondering, how do I tell how old my tiel is? After their Mutation will their cheeks turn really orange? I think I will try to put a picture on here that way someone can look at him or her and tell me.
Thanx,

Re: OK
another old post, but replying anyway:
you cannot know how old a tiel is unless it's young. if it's an adult, that's already got it's adult colouration, then there is no way to know how old it is. young MALES will get the really bright orange cheeks after the FIRST moult, after then they'll be the same. females won't get the really bright faces. all young tiels look like adult females.
