    Re: How long?

The breeder I got mine from said that if I feed it a well balanced diet of pellets and fresh fruits and veggies my bird could like to 25. He also said that diet is everything, an improper diet could significantly shorter a birds life.

Yup! Birds on seed-only diet usually only live 5-8 years!!!

The lady we got my tiels from did not give them much fruit or vegies. How can i get them to start eating it because i want them to live along time.

    Re: How long?

peg silver beet/fruit to the cage near their perches or near areas that the eat from already and they'll get curious enough to have a peck at it and start to like it. Give them time, they'll come round to it, cockatiels are too nosey to let anything just sit there!!!

    Re: How long?

try just leaving the fruits in the cage and wait to see if anything happens.. dont' give up right away because you don't see your bird eating it right away.. be patient.

    Re: healthy

    EVERYTHING! Apples/broccoli/brussel sprouts/green beans/ corn...etc

Avacado, caffine, chocolate, fruit seeds (not strawberry), can be poisonous, so pick them out.

Try scrambled/boiled egg, witht he egshell in it; if he will eat it, it will take care of the calcium (which the cuttlebone in supposed to provide).

Does he like certain colours? If he likes yellow, try yellow food, green, try green, etc.

It may take 2-3 months, to a year for him to eat human foods, it iwll depend on his age and curiosity, the younger the better. Some hand-raised have been known to try anything!

Oh, nothing fried, or high in salt/preservatives/sugar as well.

No idea about the oil- avoid it, and call your vet to see what they say.
