I just read the most amazing book. Very thought provoking... and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading. It's called "A Rip in Heaven" by Jeanine Cummins. It's a true story, written by the cousin of the victims, of a brutal rape and murder and the aftermath of the crime. There were parts of the book that made me so angry (when they arrested the wrong person for the crime, another cousin of the victims) and parts that were just plain sad. The details of the crime aren't graphically depicted, which I found refreshing. It didn't sensationalize the suffering of the girls. So for anyone who is squeemish about stuff like that, this book is still good. Anyway, I encourage everyone to read this book.

Thanks! I love book recommendations. I'll look for it. It doesn't sound like it would make it to my *happy book list* though.

    My book list consists of:

the Parrots of Telegraph Hill (about the conure flock on Telegraph Hill)
Life of Pi (currently on loan to my brother in law)
Secret Life of Bees (thanks to Ducky's recommendation and audio disc!)
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress (working on it now)
The Hours (finished reading, great read)
the Notebook (for a nice, light read)

Summer is when I get caught up on all my reading projects. I managed to read Five People You Meet in Heaven during the school year, and that was a great book. Also, Enslaved By Ducks is funny for all you pet people.

    Re: Recommended read

    Here's a good one:

Tuesdays with Morrie: an old man, a young man, and life's greatest lesson,
by Mitch Albom. I'm reading it now. It's written by a man who meets regularly with his dying professor. Very hearttwarming. It's not a big book, but if you want to get anything out of it, you have to think about how the lessons refer to you. I'm going to zoom through it, let my brain stew for a week or so, and then read it again, and think about the lessons as they apply to me.

    Next book on my list:
Rabbit-Proof Fence. I saw the movie last week, and it's a really incredible true story of a family of Australian Aboriginal girls who are "relocated" away from their family, and escape from the place they're taken.
    * Another long-winded message from the beak of Duddles. *

    Re: Recommended read

I just finished The Five People You Meet in Heaven. I thought the book was a bit slow but has a great ending. I'd give it a B+ Duddles that one is by Mitch Albom too.

I've read Tuesdays with Morrie, nice book too.

Oh I read the Life of Pi too. I loved all the animals but I thought the time on the boat with Richard Parker was ENDLESS!

I'm currently reading Enslaved by Ducks (thanks to Neopolitan's recommendation) and I LOVE IT. It is so funny.

LOL don't get me started on books! I'll go on forever lol.
