Sun Conure x Jenday Conure Mix

    Hi Everyone.

We have been raising a baby ''sunday'' conure (sun x jenday mix) since he was 4 weeks old at the pet store I work in. I have become quite attached to ''Tino'' and really want to bring him home.. but I need to know more about conures. I own a cockatiel already, would they get along? I wouldn't cage them together, of course, but maybe they could be play mates?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

it's possibe, but there are no guarantees. personally, i am really enjoying our jenday. and we eat as a flock- coby (conure), muttonchop (tiel), my wife & i. they also come out of their cages together, but are not what i consider buddies. they have separate play areas.

but it's totally do-able. there will be inevitable jealousies (on both sides), but that's what happens with all kids when a new one comes home!

let us know how it goes!

I have 2 teils and a sun. Like Daniland said they get along but aren't buddies. Jack (sun) would really love to be buddies with the teils, he is always trying to preen them but I think the teils see that big beak coming at them and they run away. Every once in a while Apache will let Jack preen him but we have to watch closely.

That's exactly how my tiel, Sophie, is with Bartok. I think he is also too "in your face" for her. But, she tolerates him. If you have them out together, keep a close eye on them and introduce them slowly.

Thumbs up Re: Sun Conure x Jenday Conure Mix

I just brought home a new Sun Conure and I already had a tiel. The two of them are getting along better than I thought they would. I suspect it all depends on the birds though. I think I am lucky. They are best buds but I don't have fighting. I have toleration and I am happy I got that much.

Not to be rude, Aratingas aren't the smartest birds in the world, but they are the loudest.
One thing all conures have in common is a love of preening. Not all birds want to be preened several times a day and bathe in a bowl daily. Some birds prefer weekly spritzings or showers.
The best way to assure friendliness is to get breeder babies raised together. Even then, it's a guessing game. Every bird is different and, just like some people don't get along for seemingly non-existent reasons, birds are the same.
One thing to be aware of is that Suns like to wrestle and play rough. Unlike many birds, conures like to lie on their sides and backs then often will kick and bite. Aratingas can maim a bird with a smaller beak even by accident.
Not everyone wants to deal with Aratingas including tiels, budgies and smaller conures.
