    I get to bird-sit quakers

This September for about 2 weeks I get to take care of a cute pair of quakers. Thier owner has to go away to help take care of her mothers estate while she gets settled into an old folks home. I'm kinda excited because I havent had anything larger than a lovebird for quite some time so its going to be neat taking care of these 2 guys.

I want to know what kind of things I need to do to take care of these guys? Should I treat them like theyre in quarrentine. I'm thinking of putting them in the loving room because by the time September is here all my other budgies should be out of thier "Q" period and all birds should be in the bird room.

anyone here bird sit? have any advice?

since they're new, I'd definitely treat them like they are in quarantine, unless you were keeping them for a couple months or so. Even then, I'd quarantine them for at least a month.

Quakers love wood toys and shreddable toys...their mom should be able to tell you what they love best, so ask her plenty of questions and have fun!

yeah- quarantine with any new birds to your environment is key for everyone's health!

since you have experience with lovebirds, you know how to deal with birds with aggressive personailies. and quakers can be a handful (like lovebirds). consistency in handling them is gonna be key.

have fun & give us updates!

How bonded are they to each other?

They are a breeding pair I think she told me they had babies spring of 2003 but this year is thier off time. She says they can be handled and one (cant remember which) is pretty tame as he/she was a pet before they were breeders. She bought them this way and is doubting breeding them ever again because she doesnt know if she wants to have to go through hand feeding if it comes down to it.
