    Poem: A cheap Bird's Plea

    A Cheap Bird's Plea
    by Joyce Glass

What is it that my life is worth
    How much will you pay
To what extent would you go
    If I get ill today?

I know I'm not an expensive bird
    My cost is fairly cheap
But what is the price you put on life
    For something that you keep?

My wings still spread out the same
My heart still has a beat
So why is it that my cousins
Are the ones you hold so sweet?

I cannot help that I was born
    Without a golden egg
Will you still take care of me
Or make me plead and beg?

I rely on you to help me
As I can't do it for myself
Will you take the steps needed
Or just put me on the shelf?

So when you walk by me
Please look me in the eye
If it would come down to it
    Would I live or die?

This almost brought tears to my eyes. Such a sweet poem! I will hang it in my room next to my cockatiels "room"

I couldn't find a place to post this so everyone could see. Is there like a poem place on tf?

    ~Kayla

Yes! It saddens me deeply to remember that very few people take the time to educate themselves, and their birds or any pet in this matter suffer their mistakes!

They just look at it in the pet store, have way too much spare money, and say "wow, look at the colors! lets get it!" they buy a bird that would need more attention than a small child, and lock it in the basement, only to be seen by guests as an object, and to be fed occasionally, then when it starts feather plucking, they throw it out.

This is what makes me very angry! I have only begun to relaize all of the sad situations birds are in these days. So many are destroyed because of neglect and abuse.

    Here's a good related article:

    Why is it so expensive?
You say it best, when you say nothing at all.
