Talking We've got pipping and PEEPING!!!!!!!

We'll write more tonight when we get back from my daughter's choir practice at about 8:30 EST, but at 3:30pm this afternoon, we heard the first peeps coming from Baby's first egg!!!!!

I've candled once more, and the one that is drawing on the air cell has made it's initial pip and is doing well!!!! We're keeping a close eye on it and the other eggs...all of which look great!

    We'll write more soon....

Re: We've got pipping and PEEPING!!!!!!!

Ok, so now that we're home...

Peter heard the first peeps coming from the first egg this afternoon around 3:30pm when I was upstairs on the phone with my Mom. He came up and told me and I practically jumped out of my skin with delight...I followed him downstairs with the phone and sure enough, I could hear teeny little peeps coming from inside the nesting box!!! My Mom was almost as excited about it as I was!

Anyway, before I managed to get off the phone, my daughter was home, so I had an audience for the candling. I wanted to check on the peeping egg to make sure that the draw-down was going properly and that the egg didn't appear to be dehydrated.

We checked all four eggs, and all four seem to be progressing well. The peeping egg had done what it was supposed to do, and we could clearly see the first pip in the shell! My daughter was almost as blown away by the whole process as I was! Gee, can you tell I'm excited yet????

I put a dot on the egg where the pip was as shown on the site I will link to below, and returned the eggs. When we returned tonight, we were again exstatic to hear the little peeps coming from the egg that Baby is so carefully turning.

It won't be too long now folks...you can start pacing now Mowsie

By the way, I can't remember who first posted the link to this assisted hatching site, but I'd like to hug that person. This site is an excellent resource for information and pictures on candling and assist hatches. It's really worthwhile taking a look.

I will post pictures as soon as I have pics worth posting. Right now all there is to see is the expectant father pacing behind the bars of his cage...

Re: We've got pipping and PEEPING!!!!!!!

12:10am More and more peeping...quite constant now...went to check on things and saw that the pipping line had gone as far as I could see around the egg from the dot I had marked on it! The peeping is much louder now too...I can hardly wait!!! I don't think I'll be able to sleep...

Earlier I was worried because I was watching for the uptake of the blood from the veins in the egg and thought this had happened but there was no additional pipping. However, the peeping continued, and as long as it did, I trusted that all was well. By the time I went back to check (about an hour or two later), I could no longer see the end of the pipping line around the egg without removing it again.

Now I'm just letting things progress, since everything seems to be going smoothly...it seems that the most critical stages have been passed. However, I will continue to watch and wait...pacing the whole time!

Oh, very lovely. My babies were a little darker. But your baby is also very lovely. I know, they are so small, like bees. What is the fathers colour?

At this time we don't have any plans to keep them...and we still have to wait and see if the other 3 eggs hatch...that being said...we were originally going to stop getting birds when we got to 6...and since we have 12 plus the one that just hatched...it would appear that we are slightly more fond of budgies than we originally thought we were...
