    Lorikeet Help

    Hi
My sister and I both have Rainbow Lorikeets. They have seperate cages and never come out together. Lately we have noticed my sisters bird is shedding alot of larger feathers and many of his wing and tail feathers seem very raggedy. They are both mainly on a diet of wet and dry mixes with fruits every second day. Do you think there is anything wrong with her bird??? or any other tips in general for us?? before getting these guys I had only ever owned a budgie!! LOL
    Thanks

How long have you had them? Could they be going through a moult?

it sounds like they are moulting. it is natural. all bird do it. moulting is when they loose there old feathers and grow new in. someone else will have more detailed info on moulting. welcome to tail feathers

    Re: Lorikeet Help

How often do you bath them? Lories benefit from regular baths, at least every other day, to keep their feathers in tip top condition.

What kind of nectar do you feed?

I would put it down to a moult, as the others have said, if they've never shed their main feathers before then they're probably long overdue unless you've missed it happening. If you're concerned about it being a possible indication of illness then a trip to an avian vet to be checked over and have some tests done would set your mind at ease.
