    Lutino eyes darkening?

Ra is somewhere in the middle of his first moult. Actually, all four are moulting right now, it's feather city here!

But I was wondering if it is normal or possible for a lutino's eyes to darken as they get older. When I first brought Ra home he had really red eyes, typical of an albino or lutino, but when I looked at him today his eyes were really dark. In the low light in my study (yes I finally got my study!) his eyes looked black. I know they can't be black, I am assuming they are a dark maroon.

Am I going crazy or does this happen?

It is pretty normal for a lutino bird's eyes to go darker as they grow up. My lutino tiel's eyes are almost black now unless the light is shining straight at them, then they look a dark maroon colour

Gizzy's eyes have darkened up somewhat since we got her also Tanni. In pics they always seem to have the red to them especially if we use the flash but if you look at her and the light is not shining almost directly in them, they can look black. She was sitting is some sunlight the other day and they did look like a deep maroon.

Nope...you're not going crazy...and since you call your lutino Mr. Grumpy-Bum, I wonder if crankiness is a lutino characteristic. I say this because Gizzy has always been crabbier than all our other birds and has actually been a psycho at times, especially when she is hormonal. During one particularly hormonal moment, she actually jumped off the cage and attacked me. She landed on my finger and bit for all she was worth. Even doing an earthquake didn't make her stop until she finally fell off. Mind you this was the worst she has ever gotten but it was bizarre.

Oh No! It may well be a lutino thing, but Ra is at least part English and I have heard that they are prone to being grumpy. Since he started moulting he has really developed that fluffy face of an English.

As I'm watching them now, he's terrorising both Sky and Sahara, while Snow is quietly grooming himself. I think both Sky and Sahara had the nerve to get on to -his- rope perch!
