    Fabric

I want to make perch covers for the PVC gym I am making. Is there anything I need to worry about when choosing a fabric? Or are they all safe?
I found some neet black woven fabric in the scraps bin, but i have no idea what it is!?
Do they use vegtable grade dyes when dying fabric?

    Re: Fabric

probably not. also, woven fabric needs a tight weave or nails will get caught.

I've seen those (pvc pipe) tightly wrapped in twine like jute or sisa for grip.

someone posted this in an earlier post and I've bookmarked it

there are ideas for wrapping pvc playgyms (actually they sell them, but I got it for the ideas)l

I made slip covers out of 100% cotten. They work great!

Zoe tries to chew them every once in a while, or lick. Do you think there is anything that could make her sick?

    Re: Fabric

did you wash the fabric before putting it on? Because mine chew on my shirts and sweaters with no problems.

the only thing i can think of is the sizing they put in new fabric to make it have "body"...it washes out first wash.

    Re: Fabric

No I did not wash it first.
It would be extremely difficult to take them all off and wash.
How can I tell if my fabric has that?
Would a clth and hot water to wipe the perches do the trick?

    Re: Fabric

You know that smell when you buy new clothes? that's usually the sizing. I've worn new clothes, unwashed, with no problems (except the smell). I don't know if it would hurt anything or not. I don't know if there are any toys made with "new cloth" that has sizing in it. You may want to ask under "other budgie topics" so more people can see and answer.

You can also use vet wrap.
