    Thumbs down sick bird

We have four budgies that all get along well. Frankie has been sitting on his belly for a day now & listing to the left. He seems lethargic and is pretty quiet.

I saw something about feeding them lettuce? I know we did feed some two days ago - would this be a problem? the others all seem ok & are giving him a lot of space.

Please offer any suggestions you have.
(I don't know how old he is as he was given to us with a cage.)

get Frankie to a vet asap.
sleepy, listing? lethargic quiet all at the same time are often signs of illness, perhaps serious.

Keep Frankie warm, lots of food and close eye on him

No, it shouldn't be the lettuce (unless it wasn't cleaned properly and contained pesticide or something). At most the lettuce will cause a few watery poop after eating because of its high water content.

All the symptoms point towards Frankie being seriously ill. Also with the other birds avoiding him it is not a good sign. Please take him to an avian vet quickly, birds will tend to hide their illness until they are quite sick.

For the time being separate him from the other birds if you can, sometimes they will attack weaker members of their own flock and if he has something contageous you don't want your other birds falling ill. Although its summer it can still be quite chilly at night, so keep him warm, make sure that he is drinking and eating and if he isn't try to tempt his appetite with his favorites (millet spray, avicakes, etc.).

I hope Frankie gets well soon.

Your bird needs to be seen by an avian vet now...we just went through an episode with one of our budgies. He was looking a little rough last Thursday and by Friday morning he was gravely ill. If we had not gotten him to our avian vet that day, he would not be with us today. Budgies are extremely adept at hiding their illnesses almost until it it too late. I don't want to sound harsh, but if you don't get him to the vet asap, chances are he will not be with you for long.

I don't think your being too harsh, we all know from experience how quickly our little darlings can fade if one is not attentive to what they need.

btw - Love your new siggy, who's the wet little girl? That's a cute pic!
