    Room to let

I've a spare aviary (6x6ft) and it's bugging me, I need to get something in there. I've found hand reared kookaburras and have considered them, mynahs, parrotlets or move my hanging parrots over, find some true pairs and dedicate it to breeding them. I can't make up my mind what I want to do with it.

Anyone wanna throw some thoughts/different birds into the equation? Parrot-like, softbill or finch.

What I'd do for an open aviary like that....*sighs*

    Hmm...what about types of doves?

    Bleeding Heart Doves
    Pheasant Pigeons
    Greenwing Dove
    Golden Heart Dove
    Bartlett Bleeding Heart Dove

I'd love to aquire a few of those above breeds, maybe I will later on in life...

I've seen pictures of bleeding heart doves. They're really cool! Minah birds are cool too. Honestly... I wish I had open aviary space.

    Re: Room to let

I'd thought of pigeons or doves but there's not really enough room down there unless they're smaller breeds, I'd quite like some racing pigeons and to start racing them at the weekends but mum's not keen

I may be able to make the aviary a little bigger (6x10ft) so am considering some of the larger softbills; mynahs, starlings, corvids, laughing thrush etc. I can usually get my hands on most types of bird so that's not a problem, just deciding which to go for.

Pigeons, I love'em! I have one, he's a show pigeon. He's not so friendly because as a squab he must not of been socialized, but I'll be getting him a mate soon, when the loft is build, which hasn't been build yet... *extreamly long sigh* But racing pigeons are awsome birds, and it is sad that not many people enjoy their beauty...

I bet it's hard to pick!

Lucky you to have this trouble! Hmm. Well, I'd go with Lories if I had some spare room. If you have the desire to be bitten once in a while LOL, try some Lovebirds. So many pretty colors and packed with personality! The peachfaced tend to be the most aggressive, in general, but they are hilarious!

    Re: Room to let

Lovebirds are a bird I can definitely rule out, nothing about them makes me want one (sorry).

I've always liked lories and lorikeets, but I have my hanging parrots are pretty much the same as them for care and mess (and what a mess!!), goldies lorikeets are one particular one's I'd like.

I bought a pair of royal starlings for the aviaries at work at the weekend and like them a lot so am considering them.

Think I'll have a word with some people and see what's available ATM.

No pics of the ones at work, but I've found one online. The wing and head feathers have that oil sheen to them, change colour with the light.

No new pics of the aviary, once I've made the changes and got something in this flight I'll get some more.

those are beautiful- royal starlings. where do they live? i've never seen one. we have starlings here, but everyone treats them as a nuisance bird, and they are not as pretty as that!

    Re: Room to let

They come from east africa... they're glossy starlings so a bit different from the ones found in your average garden, we have emerald and blue-eared starlings at work too.
