Nathan I would say if Speckles is spending a lot of time on the bottom of the cage then it's best to go see an avian vet.

I had to take my own tiel to the vet yesterday as she wasn't well. They are very good at hiding sickness and we can't help them without proper examination and possibly treatment from a properly trained person.

I hope he gets better soon.

Good luck. Vet bills NEVER seem to come at a good time, but they are a necessary expense of having a pet. I really hope it's nothing too serious.

maybe the cost is more because it's a weekend ? more like after-hours emergency?

anyway, it's good you're taking him in. In your other post, I suggested he may be biting because he's sick. Animals in pain will bite. It seems the only way to get let us know they hurt.

I agree Carol, they do bite more when they aren't feeling well, I know mine does.

It's terrible the amount they charge for vetinerary fees isn't it. I was surprised yesterday that we had to pay out over £60 for our tiel's consultation and tests.

When I add up what I have also spent on cages and all the toys I am always buying, I would say I have spent more on my tiel than I have on my pedigree dog"

well, I know when they had to "work me in" last sunday I paid over $40, and that was with no tests. I've taken them in on appointment and paid $25 - $30 with poop tests. So I'm thinking the weekend emergency visit costs more.

That's very interesting Carol, I hadn't even given a second thought to weekend appointments being more expensive.

However I just got out my receipt from yesterday and see we were charged £18.98 just for a consultation, which I am sure is more than we pay at the vets we take our dog to.

We also paid £32.31 for the Psittacosis test, £8.92 for a 4gram sachet of Ornicure and £8.97 VAT.

I guess it's always good to ask if you are being charged more for weekend appointments.
