Canaries ARE a type of finch. I'm not sure if pellets are recommended...They eat seeds in the wild. You will be fine just to feed them their seeds and fresh veggies. They must also have a source of calcium like a cuddle bone, or mineral block. You can also scramble eggs (with the shells mixed in) and feed that to them, or give oister shell.

Stick with a decent seed mix and fresh fruit and veg, everything about the finch is designed for eating seed and not pellet.

Ok then when you refer to pellets you mean the crumble as all my finchs and canarys are getting is a budgie mix not even the right kind of mix .

    Re: Finch crumbles

Your cockatiel and parakeets should eat pellets and fresh vegetables and fruits! Not a seed mix. Please stop getting/ breeding birds when you are feeding them the wrong thing. Your cockatiel needs cockatiel pellets, your parakeets need parakeet pellets, and your finches need a finch seed mix. Please don't listen to people that work at petstores they don't even know what they are talking about most of the time.

    Re: Finch crumbles

It does make it hard when most people don't seem to have a clue about pellets here in AU and those that do have pellet products for all birds, finches included.

Australia seems to be really behind the rest of the modern world when it comes to avian care and it's hard to stumble though all this conflicting info we're being given and trying to search for products that barely exist.

Nathan all I can say is calm down. No need to get angry people are just trying to figure out whats up here. I agree however in the fact that budgies should get budgie seed and pellet, tiels tiel seed and pellet, and finches FINCH seed mix not budgie mix. Are you sure you can handle all these birds okay...its a big hassle sometimes you know.

    Re: Finch crumbles

Well I can say for sure that your tiel should have his own diet NOT budgie seed because it is not a healthy option. Also, all your birds should get fresh veggies daily, though it can take some time to get them used to the veggies. Ask your vet if he knows where you can get finch/tiel food. It should not be that hard to find. Also, you might be able to buy it online.
