    budgie seed?

well, i get all my seed from a local seed supplyer, as the pre-packaged seed available around here never sprouts (the sprouting rate for the supplyer's seed is 98-99%) :/
Anyway, the only difference between their 'budgie' seed and their 'cockatiel' seed is that the cockatiel one has about 50% sunflower. All the other seeds are the same (oats, canary seed, different millets). So at the moment my tiels are on a diet of the "budgee seed" with some aditional seed added (rape, linn seed, sufflower). Is this a good seed mix for a tiel (they get pellets and veggies too, of course), or will the birds be better off on a pre-packaged diet that doesn't sprout??

Seeds that sprout are nutritious; seeds that don't are no good-they provide nothing for the bird, they are preety much just a filler then.

So yes, keep him on what he is on if it sprouts, and since you are also providing veggies and pellets and all, that should be just fine .

BTW-did you mean sunflower or safflower? Both ae fairly fattening, but birds tend to eat less of the safflower due to the taste :/ .

I'd say go with what you're doing

    budgie seed?

Yes that is way better than seeds that dont even sprout. If the seeds dont sprout then its lost all of its nutrition for the bird, so its not worth buying.

Taht's what I thought - that if they don't sprout they've been in the store too long and are no good for my birds
I get the seed mix with no sunflower and add some safflower and some other seeds that are not in the original mix.
It's jsut there's been a lot of advice to get a seed mix formulated especially for tiels, and i was wondering if what I was feeding could be lacking something
