    Re: A fantasy budgie...

i read somewhere ages ago that it is possible to get a white budgie with a pinkish/brownish tinge by breeding an albino with a purple budgie. im not sure if it is true or not it is just somethign i read. but it would be cool if it was true wouldn't it?
Yes that's true. It's called sufusion if I remember right. It all depends on how the light hits it on weather you'll see it or not.

mike : a budgie and a bourkes, i cant see why it wouldn't be possible, some fool in australia crossed a tiel with a galah ( rose breasted cockatoo) the pics of it are in another thread.
Yes I saw that. Where I saw it on another forum people were saying the picture was a hoax (photoshopped) Others weren't sure. I don't know what I think(if it was photoshoped or not). But I read on another thread about the same bird that the bird is steril because it's mixed species. It's like pigeons and doves. They can breed because they are cousins, like the cockatoo and cockatiel, they are cousins. But with the dovegons (what they call pigeon dove crosses) are steril depending on how you breed them. I forget how it goes but it's something like if you have a male pigeon and a female dove all males will be steril and if you have a male dove and a female pigeon all females will be steril.
I have 32 Budgies, 2 Lovebirds, 8 Cockatiels, 2 Rosey Bourkes Parakeets, 1 pair of IRN's, 2 Diamon Doves. I breed the Keets, Tiels, and Diamond Doves. I also have 1000+ show pigeons, 5 chickens, and several other non-bird pets. *Diamond Doves have 2 new babies and I'm hand feeding a tiel from day 1*

    Re: A fantasy budgie...

    Hey! Bird Man:
When I mentioned the story about the black budgie on another forum they totally attacked me and told me there was no such thing and that's what breeders are trying to work on now. I'd really like to see a pic of one.
How long ago was this? Maybe back then they were still searching?

Also, I'm not sure if you've seen pictures of black budgies yet, but if you haven't, here, check these out:
"anthracite" -- black with white face: http://www.budgieplace.com/v_anthracite1.jpg
"blackface" -- the stripes extend all the way down the stomach: http://www.budgieplace.com/v_blackface2.jpg

I'm not sure if anyone else already mentioned these, I only very quickly skimmed through the rest of this thread, so, sorry if this is repetitive!
for more info on colour mutations I like this website: http://www.budgieplace.com/colorsguide.html it's quite good =)

(I hope I'm not violating a rule by posting links >_< it's been so long since I've last logged into here, I don't even remember the rules, sad.)

    Re: A fantasy budgie...

I found these when I was searching the net, I wonder if they are real.

I think this one is a Rosey Bourke but it says its a English Budgie.

They sure look pretty in pink.

That bottom one is a bourkes parakeet, not a budgie.

What do you think about the pink faced budgie in the top picture? Have you ever seen one?

Not sure, it looks like a budgie from the body shape/head bars, but I am not familiar with budgie mutations.

Budgies in natural conditions live in flights and it will be boring for one budgie to live in a cage. These budgies are really very beautiful.
