OMG! Thats so cool! Luna looks great in purple! I wonder if these color mutations could ever be created, even if they are toned down a bit. Awesome!
You like Luna's little mohawk? He has a thick crest. I like it

Those would be great. I would love to see a photoshopped black budgie. That is my dream budgie. Even a black one with a white or yellow face. A solid black budgie would look beautiful I think.

Re: A fantasy budgie...
The red and soft pink budgie might be possiable. But right now all the race is to discover the first black budgie. A friend of mine said she had one and I never saw it and then it molted out to be a different color. She didn't breed the bird but got it from a lady I know who didn't know much about parakeets. She got a pair and they were always laying eggs on the bottom of the cage and she set them up with a nestbox and the lady who bred them claimed it came out that way, but when it molted with the other lady it changed colors. They named it crow because it was black and when it molted out the black her kids wanted to change it's name because it was no longer black and I highly doubt that the breeder did anything to it to turn it black. After all if she did and could pull off the scam she could have gotten a ton of money for it instead of just giving it away to the other woman.
I have 32 Budgies, 2 Lovebirds, 8 Cockatiels, 2 Rosey Bourkes Parakeets, 1 pair of IRN's, 2 Diamon Doves. I breed the Keets, Tiels, and Diamond Doves. I also have 1000+ show pigeons, 5 chickens, and several other non-bird pets. *Diamond Doves have 2 new babies and I'm hand feeding a tiel from day 1*

Re: A fantasy budgie...
bird man : i have seen a pic of an all black budgie, and recently have spoken to quite a few breeders and bird shop owners, and most have the same story to tell, they have all seen them but all have died before reaching maturity. unfortunately most will not allow me to take pics of thier birds, unfortunately the quest for a pink or red budgie is causing a bit of a debate here in australia because some ( fools ) are trying to cross breed in order to produce these colours. example, budgie X bourkes, turquoise, elegants, i have even heard of someone trying to cross a budgie with a lutino red rump. this whole concept is wrong in my opinion
there are over 250 natural different colours ( mutations ) in budgies, isn't that enough..? i don't have a problem if it is natural, only if it involves cross breeding.

Re: A fantasy budgie...
That's intresting. When I mentioned the story about the black budgie on another forum they totally attacked me and told me there was no such thing and that's what breeders are trying to work on now. I'd really like to see a pic of one.
Is it even possiable for a budgie and bourkes to interbreed? They are different species so they shouldn't be able to breed but there have been cases where pheasants have been bred with chickens and have created some intresting offspring but all have been steril as far as I know.

Re: A fantasy budgie...
i read somewhere ages ago that it is possible to get a white budgie with a pinkish/brownish tinge by breeding an albino with a purple budgie. im not sure if it is true or not it is just somethign i read. but it would be cool if it was true wouldn't it?
i got my two purples already, now i need a yellow-faced blue to add to my collection. anyone in Australia got one for sale?

Re: A fantasy budgie...
Rich - thanks! Those made me laugh. Fluorescent pink Mali.
I have a budgie book here that I've had for a long time, and in it is a photo of a budgie that really looks dark, almost black. I have always thought it to be a printing error because I didn't think that a budgie could be that colour.
If I have time later I will scan it in and show you.

Re: A fantasy budgie...
sarah : why can't you get a yellow faced blue in sydney. ? they are everywhere here in south aus. in just about every bird shop.
mike : a budgie and a bourkes, i cant see why it wouldn't be possible, some fool in australia crossed a tiel with a galah ( rose breasted cockatoo) the pics of it are in another thread.
