    Hi,

I would imagine it would be fine...they like peanuts. You Brits eat peanut butter now?

I gave my tiel some peanut butter on celery the other day and he didnt like how it stuck to his beak...was kinda funny watching him try to rub it off. Have you fed it to them yet?

    Re: peanut butter ?

Peanut butter is fine but very high in fat, so feed sparingly, as an occasional treat, especially since cockatiels are prone to obesity.

Hehe - us brits have eaten peanut butter for years - we just don't do odd things with it like put it with Jam (or jelly to you)!

    Re: peanut butter ?

My parents have always claimed that peanut butter is toxic to their cockatoo, so I've always been hesitant to allow Jokie to eat it. Their cockatoo eats peanuts, though, so I'm not sure what the issue would be there.

Edit: I think I found what they were told, and they misinterpreted it:

*(Note: Peanut Butter can become moldy. The molds are toxic to birds. Spoon out the peanut butter with a clean utensil and discard the peanut butter if any mold growth or discoloration is observed. If you are suspicious of eating the peanut butter, don't feed it to the birds!).

    Re: peanut butter ?

Brits don't eat peanut butter and jelly!!!! What's this world coming to? There is nothing weird about peanut butter and jelly (jam to you brits). If it weren't for PB&J my brother would probably be dead because that's all he would ever eat when he was a kid, same with my dad.

    ...

Sorry, that was really off topic. It just had to be said. I really have no clue if PB is okay for birds or not. I would think it would be fine. I've seen peanut butter and seed mix treats for wild birds before, so I'm sure it's OK.

Just for the record... Britian Rocks!

    Re: peanut butter ?

Toxic Foods :Avocados, eggplant, rhubarb, leaves from potato, tomato and bean plants, apple seeds, alcohol, coffee, tea, chocolate and tobacco, are all toxic and will make your bird sick. Roasted Peanuts, fresh peanuts, bulk peanut butter, or peanut butter from health food store can contain a fatal toxin called mycotoxin, produced from fungus. Commercial brands are monitored for this toxin. Use only good quality commercial peanut butter for your birds which is safe but don't feed them fresh peanuts right from a shell. Avoid feeding your bird shellfish. They may have a high bacteria count which is considered safe for humans, but unsafe for birds. Do not feed your bird cooked meat, fish or eggs that have been refrigerated and re-heated. Only give your bird freshly cooked meats, fish and eggs.

    Re: peanut butter ?

Okay, so if I feed my bird good quality name brand peanut butter such as Jiffy or Petter Pan, that should be okay, right?

I gave Simon a cracker with peanut butter but he wasn't very hungry so I ended up eating it myself But of the few bites he did eat he seemed to like it. I used Petter Pan Peanut buter.

    Re: peanut butter ?

I would say no. I have read in more than one place that peanuts contain a toxin. But then again I bought some cockatiel food that I actually picked out the peanuts of. I just don't.

I try to not feed my family or pets anything with hydrogenated oils either. So I don't buy Jeff anymore.

OH man...Alliee loves peanut butter. I sometimes make tiny peanut butter balls with millet (not the millet spray). Or I add some to apple slices...

    Re: peanut butter ?

One gets a peanut butter that is salt-and-sugar-free, and this is the one I use. They are just so slow to finish the jar, that I always feel I have to help... One doesn't want it to go mouldy, now, does one??

Thats a great idea! Kinda like we make peanut butter balls with the krispy rice cereal for us to eat! I will have to go do that and see what the birds think!

    Re: peanut butter ?

My tiel shares my PBJ sandwich every time I make one. He picks out the peanuts and his face is full of the "butter". He's never touched the jelly and will nibble on the bread crust. ( I toast the bread )

    Re: peanut butter ?

My tiels don't really seem to like peanut butter. I thought it would be good for a treat ( of course I wouldn't give it to them all the time ) but they take a couple licks and that it.

    Re: peanut butter ?

My veterinarian has actually recommended a little peanut butter on unsalted crackers when one of my birdies was under the weather and needed to put on some weight fast (She was on medication and had lost some weight). Its fine in small amounts but its very high in fat so its not something you want to make a habit of giving or you'll have an over weight birdy.
