Question Budgie and Cockatiel... living in harmony?

Wasn't sure where exactly to ask this... but I have a question I'm getting a lot of mixed feedback on, and I figure you all will be able to answer it better than most.

What are the odds of a budgie and a 'tiel living together in the same cage without terrorizing one another?

    Not good! ?

Sarah, take for instance the size difference. Budgie's also are very curious little creatures that like to engage in playful activity a lot of the time and would constantly bother the tiel, who in return will most likely get upset and pick at the budgie causing harm.

You need to keep both in seperate cages.

They just cannot be together in a cage. I do have tiels with my budgies in an aviary outside so they can keep out of each others way but it just wouldnt work in a cage.

I have both budgies and tiels and there's no way they could exist in the same cage without a divider to separate them. budgies delight in annoying the "big bad tiel", which is silly cause tiels are very non-agressive

In the wild, a flock of budgies can and will kill a tiel. Budgies are notourious feet biters. Tiels are generally gentle birds.

    Thanks all.

I kind of figured as much, but wanted to be sure. I have the chance to get a 'tiel, but just don't have room for another cage. SO! No 'tiel for me. ;-)

agreed. my keet terrorizes my tiel with his antics and his hyperactivity. my tiel is just not up to having the little keet is his face all the time. however, if provoked, my tiel could one day make a dent on the keet, so i'd rather be safe than sorry.

i can't even have the two out together at the same time!

I thought some people have dozens of different birds and let them fly around the room.

I have budgies and a tiel..but obviously Abby has his own bachelor pad. my new budgie, Meadow, is very sweet on Abby...even CHASES him to try to snuggle up to him. Poor ole abby is used to budgies biting him so he runs away from her.

Just enjoy your budgie for now. Tiels are great birds..hopefully you can get one someday.

Re: Budgie and Cockatiel... living in harmony?

I agree with everyone do not try to put them in the same cage ,but I have to say I once had a Budgie and a tiel that were great friends, so we ended up putting them in the same cage and it was the tiel that bothered the budgie with his trying to sing to him all the time but they were best buddys and wanted to be with each other all the time.

But I would NEVER just put any two birds in the same cage(even another budgie),they need time to get used to each other first!!!!
