My budgies cere is changing..does he need a vet?

Good Morning everyone. I have a 3 year old male budgie named Scooter and he is blue/teal with a yellow head. Recently his cere has changed from blue to yellow around his nostrils. It also looks as though it is peeling. Anyone see this before? He seems to be in fine health, talking, flying around the house, checking out everything...the usual. Can anyone give me some insite? Thanks

Is it possible for you to post a photo so that we can see what you are describing?

I have seen a few threads regarding this type of thing occuring in other birds. Try doing a search and seeing if those photos resemble your bird's cere. I know there was one or two in the budgie thread at least.

Re: My budgies cere is changing..does he need a vet?

    Good Afternoon everyone,
I just took Scooter to a local avian vet & he's fine. The vet does not think it's anything to worry about since it is symetrical and is locally around his nostrils. He told me he's in real good health and to bring him back if his cere turns brown or gets crusty which would mean a hormonal imbalance.

Thanks to Lisa about the info on other postings. I looked at those and although there's the one with testicular cancer :0! I also saw the thread on vitamins (and lack of) and thought that was the closer of the 2 senerios. I have making sure that he gets his eggs & greens, etc, to keep him healthy. He had a huge molt over Christmas & I think he just went through some major vitamin stores in his system.

    Thanks!
