First night fright
Oh yuck, I went through my first night fright with my tiels last night. I sure hope this is not a new trend. I woke up and Cocoa had broken 2 blood feathers and as white as Puff is you would have thought He was bleeding!
I don't understand what caused it. Never had it happen before. I hope it doesn't happen again!

Re: First night fright
That is so scary when it happens. Any changes, like lighting, a new toy, a new perch?

Re: First night fright
I have a fish tank in the room that I always leave the light on and it does act like a night light.
Tonight though I left a light on in the room just to be safe.
I don't know if one of my dogs scared them or if it was just something weird.
I might have to start covering the cage if it happens again. That will be interesting since it is a huge flight cage!
No I don't think there was any lightning and nothing new the same toys that have been there for a while (probably time to rotate toys but not with this)
I also didn’t have my air filter running that night the fright happened so that might have let noise in from outside.

Re: First night fright
i guess zoe has never had one before, it sounds like id remember it for sure. I cover the cage at night, and leave a little gap in front of the perch she sleeps on, which has a view of her nightlight.
There was a couple times, where i forgot to turn the nightlight on, but in no time i can hear little zoe give a little squeek to remind me, "hey, remember me, i need my light!"
I hope i dont have to go through a rough night like cocoa had the other night, i think if i were to rearrange her cage, it could become a problem. we'll see.

Re: First night fright
Ah yes! The sound of ambient background noise like an air purifier is often times very soothing to a bird. Complete silence harkens the approach of a predator in the wild and its disquieting to a bird. If she's not used to it complete silence at night, any sound, like the house settling or a pet moving about, could have caused the spook because the whole atmosphere of the room was different.
I'm glad your baby is okay! I hate night frights ! Been through a few myself and with seven tiels all flapping at once, it sounds like my entire living room is about to lift off. VERY unsettling!
