I'm just heartbroken

Hi everyone, I've only recently stumbled upon this forum and am so glad I did! I think I need someone to talk to who loves birds as much as I do. You see, my dear little budgie Fry, has been diagnosed with fibrosarcoma (a type of malignant tumor) that apparently is extremely rare in budgies. It all began before Christmas when I noticed that Fry started limping. Of course I quickly took him to my avian vet, but he couldn't figure it out & eventually chalked it up to being a soft-tissue injury of some sort. Fry recovered quite well, until 2 weeks ago when he once again started limping. So back to the good Doctor we went for more tests. Long story short, a physical exam, x-ray and cytology tests later, Fry was given the devastating diagnosis fo cancer.

I am absolutely heartborken...he's only 1.5 years old. I lost his cage-mate Bailey just last October to a disease he contracted from the pet store where I got him. The thought of losing Fry now just leaves me.....I can't even begin to explain.

Apparently there's nothing anyone can do except wait for Fry's quality of life to decline to the point where....well you know.

Anyway, thanks for listening...it feels better just to talk about it.

Oh no! Kelly, I'm so very sorry! I wish there was something I could say or do to make it all better. I know you love your babies so much. I can tell it in your writing.

Feel free to vent, rage, weep, anything you feel like. This is the place and we've all been through some kind of pain with our babies at some time or another.

Oh man... How heartbreaking. I'm sooo sorry. We'll stay with you through your entire journey and give the shoulder you need to cry on. We DO love birds here as much as you obviously love your Fry. I wish the news was better for him, but at least I can wish him as painless and happy life for the remainder of his days. Keep him close to your heart and we'll keep you both in our prayers.

I know theres not a word that can be said that will take your pain away!
so all I'll say is just treat and love him the same as you always do,it may make things a little easyer for him and maybe even you too!

I can't imagine how you feel to lose one budgie and now have to face this.
Fry is in good hands, with you to love and care for him and his doctor to help with pain control if need be. I am so sorry for you and for Fry.

You poor girl, it must be so heartbreaking to get such bad news about your little Fry. I have never lost a bird becuase I only one and he is still with us but I did lose two 13 year old dogs within a year of each other and it still pains my heart to think about them so I know the love we carry for our animals and the heartbreak they cause us when they get sick and die. I wished we could make a mirecle happen for you but like everyone said, go ahead and just let us hear all about your feelings becuase I think we can all relate to your pain. Big HUG to you and Fry!!

I am so sorry to hear about Fry. He is so young too! Poor little chap.

I do understand your grief, so please feel free to come and vent here whenever you need. At this time, the most important thing is to spend a lot of quality time with Fry, and let him know that you are there for him.

Thank you everyone for all your support. I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate it. Fry passed away peacefully on Wenesday evening and while I was of course devastated, it also came as a relief that he didn't seem to suffer. I miss my little guy terribly and am for the first time in over 6 years, without a budgie. Although I find it very quiet without his happy little twittering, I think that I will wait for quite a while before I think about establishing a new bond with another bird. My school program requires me to travel to Europe this summer, so perhaps when I return I'll think about looking for another little friend. Right now though, no one could replace my special little guy Fry.

Thanks again to all of you for lending an ear when I needed it...I'll definitely check in from time to time to see how all of your "little guys" are doing....Goodness I wish I would have found this site earlier...I'm sure you all would have loved Fry as much as I did and still do.

So sorry to hear about your little Fry. I am glad he did not seem to suffer in the end. I can tell you loved him very much and I'm sure he knew that, too. Your situation actually moved me to tears...I just lost my budgie of eight years...to some sort of tumor also...two days before Christmas, so I can imagine how tough this is for you right now.

I too didn't think it would be so soon.
please do let us know how things are going and when you find a new budgie we will love to meet him/her. and again I'm sorry for your loss!
