Re: How can you get rid of insects without harming your bird

See if you can board your birdie(s) somwere else for a week or so, that way you can have the pests taken care of while your birdie is not there, so you can avoid poisoning it...
most vets and many pet stores (make sure it's a good clean store if you chose that) board pets if you can't find a friend to bird-sit for you

How can you get rid of insects without harming your birds?

I have fire ants, and silverfish. I live in an apt. and they put notices up twice a year for pest control. If you don't want it you just mark that space on the notice and leave it on your door. Since the last time I did this it seems that all of the insects are using my apt. as sanctuary. If anyone knows a bird safe way to rid my home of these pests PLEASE leave a post. They are driving me crazy 8o

    Thanks - Jazz E. Bird

There is a good way to get rid of bugs safely.....I forgot how, I read it at another board. I will post there tonight and ask. It will be good for me to know, too, since I have been invaded by ants.

    Thanks Erin,
So, boric acid is the way to go. I wonder if that will kill the silverfish too.
Great article! This sounds like the best plan. I was considering the "boarding the bird and kill the ants" option but the expense of boarding and time away from Jazzy did not sound like fun. Besides I have some plants on the balcony that are food for the Jazz E. Bird. They too have been infested by the little monsters and I didn't know how to kill them without potentially hurting my sweet little bird or throwing away the plants.

    Thanks again
