    New aviary!

We finished our new aviary yesterday and the finches got to go in too! They love all the extra room now. This new one is as big as the last one. It is right next to the other one.

I agree with ya matty, the goulds sure do brighten the place up... thats why the last few pages of my album is all goulds...
It really was an awesome deal. All 5 would have cost me around $500 here. Now I just gotta find girls for them.
I have room for the other species of birds I wanted.... Canaries, Diamond doves, Pin-tail whydahs (I gotta think about that one though... they are parasitic breeders).... and all those other finch species

    Re: New aviary!

    finch : if i may , can i offer some advice ?
do some genetic gouldian research on different colouring before getting a female, if your interested in breeding different colours that is. example being white chested gouldians ( white fronted ) or orange faced, black faced.
just last week i saw ( at my friends shop ) some white fronted gould's but the white had a blue wash around the edge ( same blue that surround the head ) and i can tell you it was spectacular, i honestly didn't think gould's could get any prettier than what they already are.
    just a thought

    regards

Im not really into breeding for certain colors but would love some pretty ones. I have read about the white breasted ones with the bluish hue. They come from breeding a lilac breast with a white breast. My favorite colors would have to be the normals and the white breast, red head, green backs.

finch : i bow down to you..! keeping the original breed (colour ) alive and not being interested in trying to change from it. original is best.

    matty
please forgive me for thinking that you might be interested in breeding for colour.

Holy cow, I am so jealous! Finch, tell me your secret, what do you do.... put something in their [parents] food?? What is it, tell me your secret!!

Awsome aviary, so awsome... Your goulds remind me of "Fruity Pebbles" lol, the different colors...

Oh, have to agree, keeping the org. color is the way to be!! That is something I will do when I breed...cough one day... *dreams* I'm not into that mixing for colors, etc.... so again org. is the way to be!!

Finch, com'on just tell me your secret,PLEASE, maybe I can use it on my folks!

    Re: New aviary!

Sigh... I wish... I take it it's warm where you live? I want to build an aviary but I have to contend with the wild animals out here on top of the weather. Raccoon feces are toxic to birds so people with aviaries often have to put electric fencing around their aviaries. Also, you have to put concrete bases in the aviary or else weasels and such dig right under the fence. Grrr...

Well, yours looks great; especially with the newbies! Good like finding mates for them.

See videos of Loki and the boys here!

Im not really sure... lol. He has been mentioning a new aviary for a while but it all was confirmed when me and my mom came from the fair with the new goulds and he saw them. He immediately said that he was taking a few vacation days for my birthday so we could build the aviary.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

    Re: New aviary!

Ohh, how nice!! I'd love to have an aviary.. No idea how to make one though, and I think it gets too cold in the winter.

How do you clean it? Is it heated for winter?
