    Smile White Finch Baby ???

Hello, I have a pair of normal looking zebras that have 3, 11-13 day old hatchlings. My question is would one of the parents have to be split to something for one of the babes to be growing white feathers? The little one is pink instead of grayish and has white pin feathers while the other two have the normal dark pin feathers. This is their first clutch and I am just curious about finch mutations and the like. I think white finches are beautiful and I am THRILLED that one of my babys is going to be white. He/She will be so cute with all my other fids! Thanks for any help! Have a great day!!!

One or both of your parents are probably split, maybe to CFW (chestnut flanked white). If so your baby will more than likely be a hen. Hens are pretty common in collections of zebs. The males are a bit harder to come by apparently. I'm not an expert but I have a couple of CFW zeb hens who had normal grey parents. That's one of them in my avatar and yes they are pretty cute.

    Congrats on the new arrivals.

    Re: White Finch Baby ???

Thank you, I had some CFW a few years ago, and they had white babes. This is the first pair of "normals" that I have had give me anything but "normals". I knew one had to be split to something, just was not sure if it would be both or what the sex linked mutations are like. Thanks again!
