Need Help! Female Lutino doesn't have red eyes.!

I have a pastelface lutino. She is a Female, and I have noticed that she does not have red eyes like a normal Lutino. Is she a Lutino at all? She is all yellow with a pastel face. Can any one help me. She doesnt have brown eyes either.

Sorry for the picture. I will try to get a better one. She has some bald spots around her neck because she is currently breeding with a Normal Grey split to pearl. When he preens her, he removes some of her feathers.

Hi, If she doens't have red eyes, she's not a lutino, but rather, a clear pied.

I'm very concerned about the preening. Looks like he's removed quite a FEW feathers. Plucking of the mate like that could be an indicator that he'll pluck the chicks too. Personally, I wouldn't breed him.

If the father is agressive to the female (yes, overpreening aka plucking is being agressive) there are strong chances that he will also be agressive to the chicks and that he doesn't have a suitable temperament to be bred.

I recommend you reconsider breeding these birds considering the male's behavior.

Hes not agressive at all. I don't know why he does it. They have bred before and he has not done any harm to the chicks they have had. Instead he looks after them more than the female does. If she were a clear pied wouldn't she have brown eyes? She does not have brown or red eyes they are a very weird color, they almost look blue. But I am going to remove her from her mate so that she can grow their feathers back.

Sorry about the mess in the aviary but I don't usually clean it out when the Cockatiels are breeding because Im afraid that it could bother them.

If she's bred before, what chicks do they throw? I've personally never seen a blue eyed cockatiel before. Either some variation of brown, red or ruby. But, lutinos are red eyed birds.

She is paired up with a Normal Grey that is split to pearl. They throw Normal grey birds and Pear Females because pearl in the male is sex-linked to female. But no pieds.

Nope, they wouldn't throw pied because Dad would have to be split to pied himself as well or be a pied.

Well I did my research and found out that it is infact a Lutino. In an article in the NCS ( national cockatiel society) it states that a Lutino can have dark eyes because they gain melanin in the eyes wich makes them look darker. Here is the link if you would like to read it.

If you click on the lower photo that really shows one of her eyes, it looks to me that the iris is blue

I've never heard on a blue-eyed tiel, but that eye is either blue or light grey.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to research this further as its always been my understanding that any dark melanin rules out the possibility of the bird being a lutino - including the eyes. This article refutes this entirely. Hmmmm....

I can safely say that it just depends on how the light hits them. My albino has red eyes most of the time, but sometimes when she is sitting in the shade or a pic without flash is taken, they will look almost a grayish brown. Id play with the camera and take pics of her with and without flash. Im sure that eventually if she is truly a lutino, you will get a redeye pic.
