    Re: Scam??

I wonder if it's just a clicker training thing. Sure would be nice if what the method is was mentioned....

    Re: Scam??

It works on having your bird be hungry and making them do things for treats. If you can do it works fine. I have a problem with making my bird be hungry. I got it. What works for some does not always work for another.

No I don't think it is. I've subscribed to Chet Womach's BirdTricks and he's pretty consistant on sending stuff to me, you know, basic info and some tricks about training birds.

Here's a sample video he sent me:

that guy is a quack. he uses gimmicks that will not help you develop a trusting relationship with your bird. that's the basis of any trick training. if you wanna teach your bird tricks, buy "the click that does the trick" by robin deutch.

    Re: Scam??

He wants you to put your bird on a training diet. You measure the food you give your bird for a few days and them you decrease it so your bird will be hunger and will train for treats. I did not do this diet. He does have some helpful things on training and how to train your bird to do tricks. I just don't think you have to have your bird hunger.

Teaching tricks is a good thing to do to spend time with your bird, even if they don't learn them, LOL. He does keep in touch and send e-mails all the time with new information.

What works for some may not work for others.

you can get the clicker at the pet store. it is pavlov's classical conditioning theory. if you associate a sound with food, the animal will expect the reward (food) when they hear the sound. you can do it without tapes and books and without letting your bird get hungry. It just takes time and patience.

My dog, Tia, was trained using this clicker training as positive reinforcement. Works extremely well in dogs..dont know why it wouldnt work in birds.

    Re: Scam??

I think clickering training is supposed to be very effective with birds. I've even seen people reccomend reading dog clicker training books when working with birds, just for ideas.

I have a book on clicker training. I think it's called "clicking for birds" It comes with a cd, although I haven't used it yet, so I don't know what's on it. The book also came with a target stick, some millet to use as treats, but I'm going to use chopped up sunflower seeds or nuts, and a clicker of course.

In the books, there's all different sections, getting more and more advanced. It seems like a very good idea, and something fun for both Cricket and me to do. I need to make a stand for Cricket, and I'm planning on starting this summer.

    Re: Scam??

I've been using clicker training with my baby cockatiels. I started out by having their handfeeding syringe in my hand and clicking at the same time. (I would hold up the syringe with food in it for them to see and click). Of course.. the babies would fly right to me when they saw the sryinge in my hand.

Then, I'd raise my hand, but without the syringe, and click the clicker. Result: Babies would fly to me.

Now, I just raise my hand and the babies fly to me. (Bo more than Paris).

I never used any starvation techniques though. I used the clicker and syringe with handfeeding formula in it only at meal times. I don't believe in witholding anything. To me, that's cruel.

He sent me quite a lot of info and I didn't even pay a single cent. Granted, his starvation methods isn't so good but most of the tricks and the no-biting thing are really effective (in theory, I haven't tried it) if you want to train your bird.

I found the email list : http://www.birdtricks.com/survey2.shtml subscribe to it (it's free) and he'll send you a great deal of stuff.

    he uses clicker training too.

    Re: Scam??

i got all the CD's from them but havent had the time to start working on it yet but they do send alot of info thru email. people on other forums have the vid's and say they got their birds doing things in a few days, so i guess it all depends on the bird in question..

    Re: Scam??

Done it. Not worth the money, tones of spam that comes from him. Very poor quality of the tape - like home made. CLicker training is not for all birds, but he fails to mention it, too's and amazons often react with rage to the sound. Also, wouldn't you rather talk to your bird and get response back that way than on a click? You are not training a show animal, it's your family member! WHy in the world would you want to click for it to say hi instead of saying hi to you in the context?
