Unhappy Sinbad My Bird Bites everybody...

How do I stop or prevent my Senegal parrot Sinbad from biting me and my other family members? He bites all the time, and will not let us pick him up at all. What can I do to help resolve this?

To help we will need a lttle more information

    How old is Sinbad?
How long have you had him?
    What do you feed him?
How big and where is his cage located?
How much sleep does he get?
    Does he step up?
Does he bite when in or on his cage?

And any more information you have will help.

Sinbad is around 3 years old, I have had him for around 2 and a half years, We feed hima special parrot mix, a diet of sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts and other nuts and berries, his cage is around2 ft wide by 3 foot tall, its is located in the living room where there is mostly a badkground noise so he feels there is somebody around him, the cage is near the window, and he does get a lot of sleep. He does step up, but only onto a towel because he bites a lot, and he bites almost anywhere, he is a right terror at the moment! but i still love him.

Re: Sinbad My Bird Bites everybody...

there are several things that could be happening.

how long has sinbad been "bitey"? and was the change sudden, or gradual?

if there was a sudden change in nehavior, a vet check is in order. birds change their behavior when they are sick or injured and often don;t have other symptoms. where in england are you? we have several UK members that can help you find a good bird vet if you don;t have one.

another possibility (AFTER you rule out physical reasons) is puberty or a hard molt, esp if this just started happening.

when he bites you, where is he? coming out of his cage or from off top? it could be he is getting territirial around his cage, which indicates several things: 1. he needs a "remodel" every couple weeks- new toys, perch rearranging, etc. he needs more areas to play & be in the home than just his cage & cage top. does he have a gym?

how often does he get baths or showers? i would start giving him a real shower every other day. that will help ith calming him down & hoprmones. he also should get 10-12 hours of darnkness to sleep, or his temper is gonna be short. how many does he get? and where is his cage? if he sleeps in a room where people stay up late, move his sleeping cage to a quiet space (or get a second smaller cage for sleeping).
