    Pigeons in the roof

There was a couple of pigeon who built a nest in part of our roof. We have been waiting for them to move out before we close up the whole where they get in and out. Yesterday, mom and dad where in the backyard with baby #1. I did some research online, and from what I read.... there should only be two babies.

How do we know when its safe to close the whole? We dont want to close it too soon and we dont want to wait too long and have the parents lay another batch of eggs.

    Any tips?

Well pigeons never have more than 2 babies but one to live to fledge is common.
The parents wont lay anymore eggs anytime soon so you are safe to wait a week or so more until you close the hole.

From my experience... just observing... pigeons seem to return to the same place.... to nest, i duno if its common, but i've seen the same pigeons around my house cuz they have distinctive coloring, every year.

So... don't wait too long, or they might come back. Good luck!

I think they do come back. We have a barn swallow that makes her nest in the same spot in our garage.

    Re: Pigeons in the roof

I have raise and breed a lot of pigeons............. pigeon only lay 2 eggs at a time and if you see mom and dad with only one chick chances are they only hatch that one and they will lay back in that nest very soon so if you see both mon and dad with the chick out side then it is safe to close up the hole.
