Yeah blame mom for that. They are all left out in the day and she feels free to pluck them. They dont need to be with the parents anymore though theyre being weaned. They already eat seeds, pellets, fruits and veggies so theyre fine. The feathers will start to come back in soon. I'll probably just leave them out with Rahz since he does well with them. Pete and Neev are going to be on a long rest with lots of good foods and more sleep to help recover from breeding.

It makes me wonder how humans can feel the pain of their kids when theyre sick or something, but animals like birds hurting their own young could care less.

Animals react on instinct though...they have some feelings but they don't understand like humans have alot more feelings than animals thats why.

Great pictures! I just recently joined the forum, so was able to go through this thread from egg laying to last week, so no cliff hangers for me, LOL It was great. I've never bred birds, so I'm living vicariously through these breeding threads. They are just too darn cute!

How old are your chicks before you allow them to go to new homes?

A lot of people let them go at 9-14 weeks give or take. Though I like a bit longer to make sure they can fully care for themselves and are completely weaned.

Re: Update On Breeding *Parkin's Passed*

I am sorry to hear that Rebecca. It seemed he was doing so well. It's odd though because my #4 is having problems like this as well, only he hasn't even started to gain weight and looks much younger then the others. I am only mentioning this because you have told me that the too are so much alike in character. I am so sorry for your lose and I know how you feel. sounds like you did your best, and somethings just happen. Maybe he had a problem from birth and that is why he was always begging, so it just wasn't preventable.

Unhappy Re: Update On Breeding *Parkin's Passed*

I have some sad news. Yesterday Parkin passed away. He had slowly lost weight a bit so I gave him more time to eat away from everyone else thinking he wasnt getting enough. Parky kept eating and eating his seeds, pellets, and veggies and being fed from Neev, but he absorbed nothing from anything. I think as she was feeding him, she was giving him a different consistancy than he needed and I hand fed him too. I tried. I tried. That's all I could say when I saw him...

This isnt exactly the news I wanted to share with everyone this morning...

    Rest in Peace Parkin

    Re: Pictures

On a more happy note, I took pictures last night. I dont know if its the weather or what but the birds are screaming and being pushy and annoying to no end. Last night Micah thought my brother was getting too much attention so he pulled my ear ring hard and I tried to pry him off then he bit my ear and pulled the back off my ear ring and now I cant find it. *sigh* What a brat. I cant do anything by myself when Micah's out lol. Mo and Fahre fly around the room about 6 times like maniacs doing the "eek eek eek eek" repeatedly then land on my head and look down at me. Neev's got her full personality back and also "eek eeking" a lot and coming to visit me, while Rahz has been rather a clutz lately and spazing out and Peter is in a full fledged "sing to bag" mood.
It's just madness when you walk in the room lol. If you walk out you have to shut the door quick so Micah doesnt follow you out. Madness

And, I'm using Rahz for a theory. Rahz doesnt like female tiels and tries to chase them away. Males he stays with. So, my theory is, if Rahz is correct, Mo and Fahre are female and Micah's male. We've had the same thing happen before. But were still testing this

If you cant identify them, on the lid from left to right, Mo, Fahre, Micah and Rahz. The bottom Janeeva and Peter. (My brother pointed out Neev was looking extremely white today )

    Begging at me

    Neev is hiding of course

You can see that the pearls no doubt have Neev's crest. It's a rare sight to see but its huge. Peter and Micah have the same crest, but its more hawk-like.

    Well, hope you enjoy!
