    Night fright

I have a question. I guess I should have maybe asked this before I even got my birds. What do you do at night? I tried covering the cage but they seem restless like they are almost trapped, and I tried covering half the cage and that was still a no go. They like full open view. I was also told to keep a night light on beside the cage, but it seems to be disrupting my sleep and my birds. But when the night light isnt on then my birds get spooked. I dont really know what the proper way of putting your bird to bed is. Right now the moon is bright enough to not have the light on, but some nights there is clouds and that. If anyone could tell me what I should be doing that would be great.

I am not an expert here but I don't think there is one certain way to do it. My 2 guys sleep uncovered. They seem to like it like that. I do have a cloth on the top to make it cozy and they feel safe that way. I cover my tiel though. Is there another room where you could put them at night so they could have a light and you don't have to be bothered?

I have a night light, and even though you think your bird is being disturbed, they can sleep though the light. As we know they can nap during the day and have no problems. I think you are pretty safe with a night light. Now you on the other hand????? Maybe you can move the bird's cage to another area with the night light, so that does not disturb you?

I cover my birds with a sheet. They don't seem to mind it.
But, you have to find what works for your babies.

    Re: Night fright

I agree with everyone above, what works for one may not work for another. Tommy, cockatiel, and Molly, cockatoo, are not covered at night. Our home is the same temperature during the day as it is during the night. Both birds have playtops on their cages, so they always have the top covered because I do keep the tray in and both cages are in corner of a room. We leave a light on in the kitchen and in bathroom, so it is never totally dark except when the power goes out, LOL. This works fine for all of us here but may not work for you.

    Re: Night fright

I have to keep my birds in my room at night, because they like to be REALLY noisey around 5 am... and disturbs the rest of the family... the noise doesn't bother me, but the light does... interesting eh? Well, I am trying something different now. I have a curtain blocking the light from me but not from the birds.

    Re: Night fright

I've always covered my birds, beacuse I want to make sure they're getting enough sleep. None of them are bothered by it.
