    Any physics experts? HELP!

Been thrown into a physics assignment, some six years after I last did physics at school. Actually, it's remote sensing based, but on electromagnetic radiation (upper undergraduate, intro masters level).

Anyone here able to give me a hand, or check over the limited answers I have so far?

My father-in-law is a physicist by profession, actually has his master's in it and has been practicing for over 25 or so years now. What types of things do you need looked at? I can ask my husband if he'd be willing to give it a gander.

Sorry, I'm only a nuclear atomanation physicist, not an electorradiation physicist.

    sorry.

    *slaps Greg around a bit*
Well, Nikki, err.. I don't suppose I can really post the whole question as that would be plagiarism..but.. I have to:

Work out the spectral radiance that a radiometer measures, coming from a lambertian surface x m's away, where the attenuation length of the atmosphere between the surface and the radiometer is 1.43m. I know the spectral irradiance.

So using pi I'm fairly confident I know the spectral radiance at the surface too. So the only thing I'm really having trouble with is the attenuation. I know it's a logarithmic function, but I'm not entirely sure how to utilise it.. They try to hint at an optical path..but this further confuses me. :S

Sorry! I just remembered I replied with an offer to help. I'm going to show this to my husband and see if he can con his dad into looking at it too.

I'll let you kno what happens!

    Re: Any physics experts? HELP!

Bit late, I already submitted it :P

Thank you anyway. If they do come out with an answer - I hope it's relatively simple. I just assumed that the optical path attenuation length/distance was a fraction of the total irradiance..

I got kicked out of university for writing a thesis on physics and sex, I had entitled it "Fun with Friction".

    Re: Any physics experts? HELP!

Dash, in your formula question, are you referring to:

    1. The sea surface (395–795 nm, 2.5-nm bandwidth), Upwelling spectral radiance (Lu) at 0.65 m below the sea surface ... Or

    2. Ground Rock Surface Reflectance ... Or

    3. Irradiance Watts/m2 sr Spectral Radiance Watts/m2 sr nm Luminance ft lambert =(1 ... m2 sr = nit Radiance Watts/sr Spectral Intensity ... OR

    4. Spectral aerosol optical depths, sky radiance, and near-surface aerosol chemical ... OR

Could you please be more specific? Thanks!

Attenuation through air.. looks most likely along the lines of number 3.

LOL, raptorace. Hi there sweetytweety. Okay, Dash. I comprehend you now and will work on the formula you've provided to seek the solution. I'll let you know what I come up with. Cross your fingers. LOL!

    Hugs,
    Angel
