    Question Introducing myself

So like... I bought a female cockatiel...

And I think she might be training ME a bit...

I researched the health aspects of it and what it takes to have one and what they're like to have..

A couple of things I learned, but it's not like I realised I made a HUFE mistake or something. More like... look at them sideways instead of straight on cause that can scare them etc.. and the proper hand hold when you pick them up (yay no more bites...)

Not sure what to say, hm...

    Oh, she's a regular grey...

I'm going to try and findoutthe best way to get her to step up onto my habd (the humane society said she can do it), get her to try non seed stuff, and figure out a couple of gestures she's doing...

Other than that, colour me clueless...

And I'd really appreciate some advice or pointers to older threads.

    Thanks!

Hi Tricia and welcome to Tailfeathers. I hope you will enjoy it here and learn some things too-- and we'll look forward to hearing about your tiel. What is her name? A great way to find some good information is to read the articles that are posted in the Bird Information section of this site. (upper left corner of the page, under the Tailfeathers logo). I'd also suggest browsing threads that are in the Cockatiels section, such as Cockatiel Frequently Asked Questions, Cockatiel care, etc.

And always feel comfortable to ask any questions-- we're here is to learn from each other, share stories & experiences and to have a good time, so make yourself at home.

    Re: Introducing myself

    Hi Tricia and welcome .

I spent hours over the old threads in the cockatiel section and learned a ton. You've definitely come to the right place.

I'd say the basics for any parrot would include

    1. Adequate housing (cage size, etc - lots of good threads on that)
    2. Regular baths (just put "bath" in the search bar and you'll find a ton of info)
    3. Diet (a whole section is available on food if you look under the main menu)
    4. Sleep (make sure your girl has at least 10-12 hours of quiet and dark so she can get a good night's sleep and is less likely to lay eggs)

I think if you start with those things, you can expand from there.

    Hope that helps!
