Post My keet only eats seeds...

My parakeet only eats seeds, and I can't seem to get her to eat any vegies.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to bring in healther foods in her diet? Is there a certain thing that keets enjoy?

    Thanks,
    Selina

    My budgies LOVE
    -Shredded carrots
    -Shredded apple
    -Popcorn (no butter or salt)
    -Corn
    -Peas
    -Brown rice
    - and of course brocolli

I found it easier to get my birds to eat different things when they finally got on a pellet diet.

Re: My keet only eats seeds...

One thing that I found to work was to let a piece of whole grain bread dry out...then offered them a chunk to nibble on. They loved it. Then after a time with that, I offered them som dry bread crumbled up in my hand with shredded carrots in it. At first they just threw the carrots about, but then started to eat it. Then I just slowly offer them small amounts of other things, but always from my hand. Budgies are great copy cats, so if you act like you are eating it with big "MMMmmmm this is good..." thrown in for good measure, they will be curious and more often than not, want to try it. Now if they are not hand tamed then you might consider starting with a recipe like.....

    1 piece brown bread
1 egg boiled (shell and all)
1 small carrot or whatever fruit or vegetable that you have on hand (avoid avacado)

put in your food processer and mix till crumbly. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Offer your birds aprox a tsp each day then start adding more and more veg or fruits to the mix each time you prepare it.

    Good luck.
