Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
Hi,
I recently purchased a Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory. I've been researching my little heart out but have found some conflicting info on different sites. My main concern right now is feeding. I bought the book, PARROTS FOR DUMMIES which I found to be very informative but at the same time there was almost to much information when it came to feeding. Is there anywhere out there that I can find a weekly menu until I get the hang of it? I just want to do everything right and feeding is the only thing that worries me.

to Tailfeathers Paula, and congratulations on your new addition. Do you have any photos you can share with us?
I have moved this thread over to the 'Other Parrots' forum so that more parrot owners can see it and respond.

Morgan- I'm sorry, this is off the subject, but I just melted on the spot when I saw that first picture of your sleeping lory. I can't get over it. It couldn't be any cuter. Hi Paula and welcome. I don't know lories.

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
What kind of lory is yours Morgan? And Paula, I would love to see what yours looks like. I really like all the lories I have met - they seem to really have a sense of humor and be very smart.

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
Thanks for clearing that up Matty. I saw the picture of Jazzy then checked your post of the Rainbow Lories in your trees and was wondering what the difference was. Stunning colors.

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
Morgan, I use the Quiko too. She LOVES it. I'm having a bit of trouble with the Lory pellets though. I even try mixing them with the nector and the bugger just labs up the nector and somehow leaves the pellets. I'm being patient though and know that it's a process to get them to eat them.
Jennifer, did you take those pictures? That must be some fantastic camera you have. BEAUTIFUL pictures!
Thanks for the info Matty. It's just amazing to me that these magnificent birds are out there in the wild. Great pic. Thanks for sharing.

Love your baby, very pretty! My daughter has a Rainbow Lory we absolutely adore. They have such wonderful personalities. I also feed mine fresh fruits and veggies, he loves them.

Paula,
Actually, Peter (Hehot), my boyfriend took those pictures. They are beautiful though, I agree.

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
"Jazzy looks like a sweety" ? This little bugger is making me crazy. She now won't step up on my arm anymore and she is definitely winning the war on foods!
No pellets, no matter how well I try to hide them in things including her nectar.
No peaches, pears, cantaloupe, blue berries, all melons, kiwi, grapes, sweet potato, broccoli, carrotscorn, peas, green beans.
She Loves apples, bananas and oranges.
I'm not even close to being done with trying new things, since I know there are alot out there, but right now I'm worried about her. I doubt if she can stay healthy with just those 3 fruits and nectar.
Should I give her the nectar every day since she's not getting much nutrition at this point?
But, after all this complaining, just let me let you all know that I still, and always will, love her to death. She really makes me smile.

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
Are you mixing the baby food with water or rubicon/ceres juice?

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
I'm not mixing the baby food with anything. Wouldn't that be depleting the nutritional value.
The good news is though that she is now eating pellets

Re: Swainson's Blue Mountain Lory
It's not depleting the nutritional value if she's eat all. I mix the quiko with water then add some baby food and then add a bit of the juice.
