I getting a new Tiel in the morning

I am really excited to finally be getting a new 10 wek old tiel in the morning tomorrow. I will post up some pics when I get some taken after the joyous event takes place

This new baby will fill a hole in my heart that has been there ever since my Marvin passed away. I know he/she will not take his place, but I am ready to move on now.

Here he is. I have named him Danny. Not totally for sure yet for a while, but I did the pelvic bones check and seems to be a boy. Danny is a cinnamon pearl pied tiel. Not really very tame for a hand fed tiel, but will work on it after a few days of adjustment.

Very pretty. I just got my new tiel 9 1/2 week old tiel on sunday. I also did the pelvic thing and believe mine is a boy also. There is a slight space between the bones but not even a 1/4 of my pinkie can fit between them so I think (s)he is a boy. Guess I will find out once the molt arrives. How was the spacing on your new tiel?

Here is a pic of my cutie.

Thanks. I think your baby is precious too.
Well I have my adult female and her pelvic bones feel like this ^ ^. This baby's is like this ^^. Not sure if it will change or not. I will definately find out at the molt too like you for sure. Danny has been quite active playing with everything and talking to himself in the mirror too. I do not understand why he is not really that tame though.

Here are some more pictures just for fun.

Re: I getting a new Tiel in the morning

After doing a little research I have found out that it is possible that a hand fed bird to be afraid of hands like Danny is because he was not properly socialized. Now I have a big task to try to get him socialized properly while he is still young enough to learn to be sweet. I hope that I am successful.

I'm sure you can do it with patience and kindness And you have experience with tiels already, which is a plus.

If it helps, on Dec. 28, I adopted a tiel from a shelter. She was TOTALLY untamed: hated hands, bit, tried to fly away whenever anyone got near the cage. Well, Sunday Syd had her first head scritches and evey morning since, she has come out and immediately bowed her head for her morning head rub She still has a ways to go, of course, but I am so pleased with her progress.

And wow! is he cute. So pretty Keep us posted on your progress with him!

Re: I getting a new Tiel in the morning

thanks everyone. i picked him out of the cage this morning for some one on one time in a quite room. he flew away from me for about 15 minutes, and finally decided to stay with me and get his head and neck rubbed. he did much better then i thought he would do, but he is stubborn about stepping on my finger still.

i am terribly sick right now(bronchile problem) and could not play with him for too long, but i have hopes that he will make a turn around in his behaviour pretty soon.
