    Normal GCC behavior?

I'm in college now and me and my friends often go over to the shopping center across the road in our lunch breaks to buy lunch. There is also a great pet shop there. I've been visiting it every now and then since I started college a few weeks ago and there is a gorgeous Green Cheek Conure in there. I was pretty happy cause this is the first time I've seen one before. It was priced at $450 Australian dollars. (Is that a fair price?)
Anyways, on the first day he was very shy and quiet but as each day passed he got more and more lively. Now when I go to see him he nibbles on my finger, but never buts too hard (if he does, I dont pull my hand away). He also hangs upside down on his perch with one claw and swings around like that.
He has a ball on the bottom of the cage, I saw him go down and flop himself upside down and then he picked up the ball in his feet! It was so cute. He seems like a real comical bird.
My friend thinks he is mental. Are all GCC like this?
I'm seriously thinking of purchasing him if my Mum allows me. No one has bought him and its been weeks. I'm afraid he might be snatched up soon.
The pet shop also have two King Parrots. They are alot bigger than what I thought they were. These two are allowed out of their cage.

Green cheeks are a blast - they're always up for clowning around

Will the store owner let you take him out and play with him?

I wish. But I'm a bit nervous to ask. There are around 1000 students that come over to the shopping center at lunch, so teenagers normally do not get a good reputation around here. They always assume we are stealing something. Kind of unfair really. But the people there are nice enough, I'm just too shy.

Yup, that sounds like a GCC alright! They are like little puppies. I can't imagine my life without my little Bartok.

Hehe they sound great! The one in the pet shop was acting like a puppy! My best friend even mentioned he was more like a dog than a bird. I wonder how to convince mum to let me have him.

If you are really serious about buying him, do try to play with him first before you bring him home! It'll help you gauge his personality.

Good luck! let us know what happens. As for the price tag, I'm not sure how much GCCs usually run for in australia. Here they are usually around $250 US.

    Re: Normal GCC behavior?

Bartok was $150 because I got him from a breeder, but I see normal GCCs at pet stores for $250-$275 US. If the GCC you are looking at is a mutation (pineapple, yellow sided, turquoise, cinnamon, etc.) that could be cause for him to be more expensive!

Kate--thanks! That photo was from one of Bartok's first baths. He loves his casserole dish! The boat and rubber ducky are no more, unfortunately.

    Re: Normal GCC behavior?

Well I've never seen one in Tassie before so maybe he has a high price cause he is rare? He is not mutated. Just a normal colored GCC. Can any of you australians direct me to GCC breeders in Tassie? I may not be able to purchase this little guy, but I would like one sooner rather than later.

I'm gonna take a video of him tomorrow and show it to mum and see what she says.

    Re: Normal GCC behavior?

That really expensive. You can get them around here from breeder's for $200-250. At pet stores they are $500 way over priced.

Arent they a lot cheaper in America than they are in Australia? Or are they the same price in both countries?

I've been looking and looking for conure breeders in Tassie, and I fail to find one.
