New tiel meeting other tiel Opinions please

Looking for input. I have a 5-6 month old tiel that I have had for about 1 1/2 months. He is not yet tame, but has gotten better. Eats millet from my hand and has gotten up on me a couple of times, but is very timid.

Now I just got another tiel thru adoption who is 1 year old. This tiel has been checked by a vet and all is normal and healthy. I want to bond with this new tiel who is very tame and loving. I feel bad since the new tiel is being quarantined in another room that I don't spend a lot of time in, I would like to bring her into the livingroom with me but I am afraid that being around the other tiel will keep her from bonding with me.

What does everyone think and have you gone through the same thing?

i think it depends on the tiel. some tiels, especailly those who have been hand-raised and never been around another bird, would rather spend time with you then with another bird. other times the bird sees and hears the other bird and wants to investigate it, making it more interested in the other bird then bonding with you.

i also have to say that if the quarantine period isn't up i wouldn't move him into the same room as your other one. even if he's been vet checked and has a clean bill of health he may still have something (symptoms haven't come up yet) that could pass on to your other bird. not to mention the stress may cause an underlying problem to come up. i'd say wait but ultimatly the desicion is up to you.

Hmmm... We've never been in this situation, so it's hard to say. I don't want to give you bad advice. Sorry.

Well, they are in the same room now, different cages. I deided to make the change, since I could not stand leaving Tiki in the room most of the day by herself. Tiki still hangs out on my shoulder and with me on the couch.

Bailey, the one that I am currently trying to tame, has been more eager to be social. I think that it is working in my favor and helping me tame Bailey. Today I got him/her on my hand...he only stayed for a couple of seconds, but none the less came up on my hand.

I think that it was a good move, at least now when I am not home they can at least talk to each other.

Jaime, Bailey, Tiki and the rest of the zoo!
