    100% Cotton.....

Just courious im in the middle of building my own playgym for my two budgies. I recently got the idea from another gym that i saw on here with using Jute twine to wrap the pvc perches to give the girls better traction/grip. I was just wondering has anyone every tried dying the jute with food coloring to make it look nicer, then wrap it so it's nice and colorfull. I was wondering if the dying of the material would be ok for them, then maybe id use cotton and dye it for the perch wrapping. Anyone ever dyed their cotton for perch wrap or anyother home made cotton toy's?

    Thanks.

    Re: 100% Cotton.....

I've did test dyes on jute with plain food coloring and most of the colors turned out pretty good. However i didn't have bird safe coloring without that one ingredient at the time (can't remember the bad ingredient at the moment, nor can i remember the bird safe type dyes)...so I didn't do it, but I wanted to test to see if it would work.

Human grade food coloring is safe. The dye will run off the rope when wet. That is a sign it is bird safe.Any dye that doesn't run in water(test your store bought toys in water) is not safe.
