    Peach Fronted Conure

I have the opportunity to rescue one of these.
Can anyone tell me the good and the bad with owning one these cuties?

Also, it is an adult and supposedly completely untamed

    Re: Peach Fronted Conure

i have read that they can be loud, but are more on the quieter side for that group of conures. I have also read they can make good pets, but not sure if being handfed is a requirement for that.

in my opinion, any bird can be loud, and any bird can bite. if you are willing to give a good home for him even though he may not be tame then he may grow to accept you over time. just an afterthought here too. i have also read that birds act differently sometimes with different people so you just never know. and there is nothing wrong with giving an adult bird a home if you are willing to have tons of patience with it. they need good homes too.

Actually IMO they are one of the quieter conures. IMO they also have a pretty good speaking ability for a conure; any baby I had was talking by weaning time; at least 1-2 words.
They seem to be a bit more mellow than some others but if it isnt a tame adult that will change that. But I have seen breeders be tamed back down ever after several years.

    Re: Peach Fronted Conure

I don't know if you have rescued the conure yet but let me tell you my story.

About 27 years ago I had a blue crowned conure that was given to me as a gift. It had no leg band and came from a pet store. I suspect it may have been wild-caught. The bird was totally untamed and bit with a vengence.

I named him Pepper and took him into my large empty walk-in closet with me. I had treats and a perch. I worked with him about an hour at a time over a three to four day period, not having a clue about what I was doing. I just wanted to sit quietly with him and let him come to me.

He ended up not only tame, but a velcro bird. He was wonderful. Once we worked together in the closet and he could see I was not going to hurt him, he trusted me more and more until he would actually fly to me from his cage when I called him. The bonding time in the closet did the trick. I would imagine a bathroom (cover the mirror) would work as well. Pepper was my very best buddy, saw me through my divorce and the adoption of my first child.

Birds are individuals. Please don't judge one single scared and wild bird by its present situation. Pepper learned to love and be loved, and my life is better for it. So was his.

The Conure was gone when I got there so I decided on the Cockatoo. Thanks for the nice Pepper story and the info on them. You never know what tomorrow will bring.
