    I think its peeping

    Edited:

Don't worry about this post. I think I might have made a big mistake. I thought an egg was fertile and was peeping. It's just an egg shell now and there is no baby.

The mother bird dropped the 20-22 day egg on the cage floor. It wasn't damaged. I felt a pounding inside the egg when I moved it back to the nest. About 1/2 hour after returning the egg to the nest, it looks like this:

The egg is now just a shell. There's nothing. No baby. Either I was mistaken about it being fertile or they've eaten the baby or something.

I am so sorry...Double check the nesting material and make sure the baby isn't hidden?

The egg ussually separates when they hatch so maybe it was infertile...and just dropped?

It was infertile and it dried up during the time it was kept warm so the thumping sound you heard was the dried egg yolk inside the egg bouncing around.

Sometimes, if the egg breaks inside the nest, the liquid will stick to the parent's feathers and they can carry them sticked to them outside the nestbox. Eventually they will drop it on the floor of the cage. It has happened to me once. Do you use to candle the eggs? It's the best way to make sure they are fertile. No use wasting heat on unfertile eggs right?

But then the infertile eggs give heat to chicks when the parents arent on the nest..

Hmmm, good point, specialy when there is only 1 or 2 chicks. Would rotten eggs do harm? Infection or something? I'm always afraid of that. DIS eggs get really nasty inside.

If it's infertile then it can't be DIS. So there's no rot to worry about. It's just an infertile egg that never develops into anything. Eventually it'll just dry out and stuff inside will be come hard.
